BSSE (B) Step 1. Understanding the situation A: List and number the relevant facts. 1. Clare Valerian works as a systems analyst for the significant electronic equipment distributor Califon, Inc. 2. Clare Valerian's main duty is to ensure that the 127 end users at Califon's U.S. headquarters may access data, post to accounts, send and receive email, and execute any other tasks that require access to the local area network of the business. She identifies as a coordinator and problem-solver. 3. Clare Valerian spent a lot of time travelling to various locations inside the various company structures.Because she had to go and examine what the user was seeing on the screen, the phone was useless. 4. Her workweek has drastically transformed thanks to a utility software called LANSCAPE.She can address user issues without even going to the users' workstations and terminals thanks to the utility application and telegraph at her desk. 5. Claire can watch other network users' activity and even take control of them thanks to the LANDSCAPE programme. Her usual first task when she sits down at her workstation is to scan through her email for any potential problems, print the messages, open LANSCAPE, and call each user one at a time. 6. Clare has enough time, in fact, to examine user activity without their asking her to.Troubleshooting has shifted from being reactive to becoming more proactive.Without the users' knowledge, she can scan a large number of users, and when she finds one who needs assistance, she can intervene and provide it. 7. . Instead of updating the record for each entry, Harry can speed up that numerous posting to a single client by utilising the TAB key.Yes, in that way.I am happy to help. 8. Last week, Art Betnoy, vice president of information systems, and Clare met to discuss LANSCAPE with their employer, the director of user support.Without this application, I would have to monitor every user's activity in every system test and move between different buildings, Clare stated.I can keep an eye on them from a distance using LANSCAPE. 9. LANSCAPE is affordable and simple to use.I wholeheartedly support keeping it in use and advise getting more copies to give to all support staff. The three continued by talking about how using LANSCAPE has increased user satisfaction and productivity. 10. Executive Vice President Alberta Wilson and Art were having their customary Tuesday lunch.Art kept admiring LANSCAPE without ceasing. The LANSCAPE application, according to Art, doesn't alter anything on customer screens.Because my team needs to view exactly what the users see, that system feature is obviously important. 11.Alberta said “Could you install LANSCAPE on my terminal, in my office?” 12.Art replied “Of course. But what value would that be?” 13.Alberta leaned forward and whispered, “I shouldn’t reveal this outside the Human Resourcesdepartment, but I think I want to enlist your support. Here at headquarters, we may have oneor more persons dealing in drugs. We have suspects but not proof. 14.They take orders during company timing and deliver it to the customers. 15.We tried varioussurveillance methods with no success. What I want to do is use LANSCAPE to randomly checkon what the suspects are doing. Then, if we catch them red‐handed, we’ll have our evidenceand we can prosecute.” 16.Art frowned and said, “Gee, I don’t know if I should give you that software, Alberta. Let me think about it and get back to you.” B : Which of these raises an ethical issue? Why? What is the potential or resulting harm? 1. Clare valerian primary responsibility is to make certain that the 127 end‐ users in Califon’s U.S. headquarters can access data, post to accounts, send and receive e‐mail, and accomplish all the other duties they need to perform on the corporation’s local area network. She describes herself as a facilitator and troubleshooter. 2. The LANDSCAPE program allows Clare to view and actually take over the activities of network users. Typically, her first task upon arriving at her desk is to check her e‐mail messages for trouble spots, print the messages, bring up LANSCAPE, and call each user one at a time. 3. Clare even has time to scan user’s activities without their making a request. Her troubleshooting has become more proactive than reactive. She can scan a number of users without their knowledge, and when she finds one in trouble, she can interrupt and help. 4. Last week Clare and her boss, the Director of User Support, met with the Vice President of Information Systems, Art Betnoy, to evaluate LANSCAPE. Clare said, “Without this program, I’d have to control the activities of every user in every system test and move from one building to the other. With LANSCAPE, I can watch over their shoulders without being there. 5. Art was having his usual Tuesday lunch with his boss, Executive Vice President Alberta Wilson. Art couldn’t stop praising LANSCAPE. Art said that The LANSCAPE program doesn’t change anything on customer screens. Of course, that’s necessary feature of the system because my people have to see exactly what the users see.” 6. Alberta said “Could you install LANSCAPE on my terminal, in my office?” 7. Art replied “Of course. But what value would that be?” 8. Alberta leaned forward and whispered, “I shouldn’t reveal this outside the Human Resources department, but I think I want to enlist your support. Here at headquarters, we may have one or more persons dealing in drugs. We have suspects but not proof. 9.
