CS 2301 Written Assignment Unit 1

The document discusses several key functions of an operating system including managing computer processes, controlling input devices, running programs, providing user interfaces, allocating memory, handling security through user profiles, and allowing the installation of virtual operating systems. It notes that the operating system controls many aspects of the computer behind the scenes. It also describes how operating systems provide access control through user accounts and permissions as well as running programs through allocating memory to processes.

CS 2301 Written Assignment Unit 1

A series of computer processes managed by an operating system, which is a software component.

All of input devices including keyboards, mice and other input devices are intuitively controlled
by user. You only need to click once to play a piece of music, but the operating system really
controls many aspects of computers. To do this, the operating system runs several processes
(Techspirited,n.d.).

# Access control:
It asks you to configure user settings (Username and Password) during installation
operating system so that only people with the password can access the desktop and other
applications. If you are as an administrator, you can also control which resources others are
allowed to use.

# User interface:
"The command line interface or graphical user interface is the primary means of
with which the user interacts with the operating system" (Techspirited, n.d.). The operating
system starts integrate user interface support into their kernel, allowing users to create alone on
the command line.

# Run the program:

Any program must run in one of the processes where the operating system (OS)
automatically creates and the operating system allocates memory for this program when it loads.

# IT security: The operating system's ability to handle multiple user profiles is most important
featured. As soon as you log into your account on your computer, the security of your operating
system safeguards is put in place (Techspirited, n.d.). Both A secure and malware-free operating
system is required. To make your computer more secure with the latest version
Windows versions, you just need to activate Windows Security

# Install a virtual operating system

You must first download and install a virtual machine, such as Oracle VM Virtual Box, to install
a virtual machine
virtual operating system (UNIX) above.
You should run it when you're done. Press the New button. Select the location you want to save
this, type (Linux) and version installed.
Then you have to choose how much RAM will be allocated to this virtual machine. Hard drive
capacity
then you have to choose the space to create for this virtual machine.
Next, you need to decide what file type to use for the new virtual hard disk. Afterward,
you need to go to the Linux website and download the version you want.
Would like.
Virtual machine storage must then be allocated. Just click Start then on a new build.
The next step is to select the Linux file you downloaded.
The next step is to install Linux using standard operating system installation procedures.
Download the Virtual Box extension pack and add it by selecting the Tools, Extensions, Add and
button
additional features and controls you want to add to your VM file extension
now you can run Linux with Windows
