Rizal Life & Works | Acebo, Marianne Jane R.

COE301

• Read the assigned readings for this homework.

• Compose a five-sentence essay answering the following questions:

1. Why did Rizal and del Pilar fight during their stay in Europe?

It was 1890 when Rizal started to contribute to help the reforms of the
Philippines. The rivalry had begun because of Jose Rizal and Marcelo del Pilar’s
different perspectives amongst their editorial policy, and it started into a huge
controversy between the two writers. To solve the conflict of the two, people
gathered in Madrid to vote on who would be the Responsable and he, whoever
won would become the administer the campaigns for reform of the Filipinos.
Rizal had won the votes but later abandoned his leadership since he knew there
were people on Del Pilar’s side who clearly does not agree with him, so he left
and Madrid and did not contribute anymore. Rizal not being part of the
organization anymore started receiving letters from Del Pilar that he should be
continued but the humbleness of Rizal stated he does not want to meddle with
Del Pilar’s perception of the La Solidaridad.

2. How did Rizal honor the GomBurZa in El Filibusterismo?

Jose Rizal who wrote the El Filibusterismo to seek or open the mind of Filipino
people during the reign of the Spaniards. Rizal dedicated ElFilibusterismo,
which main argument was to give messages for the system of government in
the Philippines were dominated by corrupt officials. The GomBurZa was Rizal
inspiration, with their death the Propaganda movement happened because we
only seek to find equality in our own country. Rizal second novel was to give
tribute to the GomBurZa and to awake Filipino from the abusive colonizers
once and for all. Although this novel had triggered Spaniards it was clear we
were seeking and getting the justice that we deserve.
