A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS VI

I. Objectives
At the end of a sixty-minute discussion, the Grade VI pupils should be able to:
a. interpret data presented in a pie graph;
b. compute data in a pie graph; and
c. cooperate in group activities.
.

II. Subject Matter

Topic : Pie Graph

Reference/s : BEC PELC V.A.1, Teacher’s Manual pages 126-129

Materials : Pie graphs, pizza, TV and visual aids

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activities

 Prayer

Good Afternoon class! Good Afternoon Ma’am.

Now, let’s all stand and pray. Faye can you ( The pupils will pray )
please lead the prayer.

 Checking of Attendance

Who are the absent for today? None, Ma’am.

Very good class! It is nice to hear that all of you

are present today.

 Review
Now, what is our lesson yesterday? Ma’am it’s about data collection.
Very Good.
This table shows how pupils in Mexico
Elementary go to school.

Mode of Transportation Frequency

Tricycle 36
Jeep 28
Racal 14
Motorcycle 12
Bike 10
Total 100

Answer the questions:

100, Ma’am.
a. How many pupils were in the survey?
b. What is the least preferred mode of Bike
transportation?
c. What is the most preferred mode of Tricycle, Ma’am.
transportation?
d. How many pupils prefer to ride the 12.
motorcycle?

B. Motivation Yes, ma’am

Would you like to sing a song?
Do you know the song small circle big circle? ( The pupils will sing )
Small circle, small circle
Big circle,
Here’s mama here’s papa
This is the boat were going to ride on.
Six times six thirty six
Six times six makes the magic

What is the song all about? About circle ma’am.

Very Good.

The song is about circle, because our lesson for

today is related on interpreting data using a pie graph.

C. Presentation

Now class, let us read the problem.

( The pupils will read the problem. )
Mang Celso brought home a regular pizza pie.
He wants to divide the pizza equally among his
four children.
What part of the pizza pie did each child
receive?
( A pupil divide the pizza pie )
Who wants to divide the pizza ?. 4, ma’am.
How many slices of pizza do we have now? 25%
How many percent does each child received?

For, today, we will discuss more about pie

But first, what is a Pie graph? quantity in each of the several categories.
Very Good.

A pie graph is a visual way of displaying data

that is written in percent. The circle represents
100%. The circle is divided into sections. Each
section shows what part of 100 that has each
item represents. The pie graph uses different
colors for each category being described.

Now, let’s have this graph.

3. How many percent does each garbage represent? Plastic=60% paper=5%, bottles=10%
vegetable=10% and cans=15%

100%
4. What is the total percent?

Now, let’s complete the table.

To get the mass, we multiply the percentage by the
metric ton. We change percent into the decimal first. Garbage Percent Computation Mass
Vegetable 10% .10 x 2000 200

6. How many metric ton? 1,200 metric ton.
D. Guided Practice

Now let’s have a group activity.

I will group you into four then choose your leader, and
the leader will be the one who will discuss your activity
in front of the class. I will give you an envelope, inside
the envelope is the activity that you will do. I will give
you five minutes to do your activity.
Work quietly, Cooperation must present
But before that, what are the things that you must and follow the instruction of the leader.
remember when having a group activity?

Yes, ma’am.
Do you understand class?

E. Generalization

Again, what is pie graph?

A pie graph is a visual way of displaying
data that is written in percents
How does a Pie graph help in interpreting
data?
It helps us to show the percentage of a
quantity in each of the several categories.
It can also be used to easily visualize the
ratio of one category to another.
F. Fixing Skills
Now, to understand more our lesson let’s have this
activity.

Mr. Reyes asked his class to vote on where they would

like to go on a field trip. The choices he gave them
were: Museo Pambata, National Museum, Oceanarium,
Science Centrum, and Avilon Zoo. All 40 pupils cast
one vote each. The pie graph below shows the result.

If you were Emmanuel would you have the
same budget of time? Why or why not?

G. Application

How can you apply your knowledge in interpreting a

graph in your everyday life?
IV. Evaluation

Study the graph. Answer each question that follows.

In a recent election, 60 pupils voted for the grade 6 class president. The results are shown in
the graph below.
