TOPIC/ISSUE
An investigation into the reasons why students prefer to purchase lunch from outside vendors
as opposed to school cafeteria
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Considering the large amount of students the school of Trinity College East has, many outside
vendors has taken the opportunity to sell their food products to them. It has been seen that
many school students prefer to purchase items from outside vendors than their own school
cafeteria. Therefore meaning a reduction of profit for the school cafeteria. Thus, this SBA will
explore the reasons students prefer to purchase from outside vendors rather than the cafeteria.

OBJECTIVES
1. To determine the various food products and quality of products supplied by the Cafeteria and
outside vendors.
2. To determine the cost price of products sold at Cafeteria and outside vendors.
3. To determine the reason why students prefer to purchase from outside vendors rather than
the school cafeteria
4. What do I want to achieve by the end of the SBA.

BACKGROUND/OVERVIEW
Every day students of Trinity College East buy food products as a result becoming the
customers of the school cafeteria and outside vendors. This topic is important to gather
evidence of what forces students to purchase from the school cafeteria than outside vendors
and the advantages of purchasing from both places. This topic can have significant importance
also in the well-being and safety of the student, also in gaining profits and customers’ loyalty.
From my observation, it has been seen that many school students prefer to purchase items from
outside vendors than their school cafeteria. This has been found to have a significant effect on
both suppliers as their profits and supply vary accordingly. This SBA will serve as a basis to
present the various reasons why these students have these preferences and how it affects them
and the society as a whole.
METHODOLOGY
This SBA will be directed to students who attend Trinity College East between the ages of 15 to
17, where they will be assessed using an online questionnaire, which will be asking a number of
relevant questions in order to gather information and assess the students. This process of
gaining answers from the questionnaire will take up to five (5) days, which will be collected and
analyzed in order to discover the reasons for students purchasing from outside venders than
their school cafeteria. The type of data that will be gathered will be quantitative which will be
calculated using appropriate formulae to conclude the information gathered and presented on
various graphs, charts and tables.
