 High temperature working

It is suggested that, for temperatures above 35 Deg Celsius, the following guidelines are adopted as
good working practice:

 Store unmixed materials in a cool (preferably temperature controlled) environment, avoiding

exposure to direct sunlight
 Keep equipment cool, arranging shade protection if necessary. It is especially important to
keep cool those surfaces of the equipment which will come into direct contact with the
material itself.
 Try to avoid application during the hottest times of the day, arrange temporary shading as
necessary.
 Make sufficient material, plant and labour available to ensure that application is a continuous
process

APPLICATION OF FOSROC MEMBRANE HDPE-P STANDARD ON THE RAFT

Horizontal Application:
 Clean all concrete surfaces free of laitance, dust, dirt, cavities, projecting nibs etc by grinder and wire
brush
 Standing water shall be removed to prevent contamination of overlaps and subsequent compromise
of waterproof properties and make sure that the surface is dry and smooth.

 Cut the membrane to a convenient length for installation. Carefully align the membrane and
roll it out with the sanded face facing up.

 Lay adjacent sheets accurately so they overlap the previous sheet 75mm along the
Adhesive selvedge

UNDERPASS BOX, WALLS AND RCC “C “ SECTION APPROACH RAMP Page 4

constructive solutions

 When laying adjacent full rolls there should be a stagger of roll to avoid a buildup of end
joints in one area

 Overlaps between sheets shall be rolled to ensure good adhesion by gently releasing the release film.
The overlap comes with width of 75mm.

constructive solutions

 End joints and cut edges- Keep the Fosroc Membrane HDPE Sealed Tape clean and protect it from
being contaminated from dust before use. After applying the Fosroc Membrane HDPE-P, remove the
sanded particles by hot air shovel gun to a width of 100m. unroll the tape and remove the release film
and adhere to the shoveled area of the end laps of the membrane.
 Application of membrane on the Toe of the raft– If the raft is extended beyond retaining wall then the
horizontal portion of the Toe to be covered with HDPE based membrane Fosroc Membrane HDPE S
overlapping on to the Fosroc membrane HDPE-P by minimum 100mm on either side

Horizontal to vertical joints

 Fosroc membrane HDPE-P can be easily bent at horizontal and vertical junction. If required shall be
gently warmed with heat gun to make it in right angle at junctions. The membrane can be supported
with HDPE Sealed Tape(double sided tape) spot bonded with the shuttering.

constructive solutions

 Fosroc membrane HDPE-P can be treated with Sanded tape at corner junctions

Pipe Penetration & Treatment of Tie rod hole

 Make the hole in Fosroc membrane HDPE-P equal to diameter of pipe and inserted into pipe and
fixed with collar of top hat with already fixed HDPE Sealed tape.
 After the removal of shuttering, the hole is cleaned thoroughly with blower and cleaned with water.
 Thereafter the hole is filled with suitable material, matching the grade of poured concrete.
 The filled hole is then patched from outside with HDPE-P membrane with the help of double sided
sealing tape

Pile cap treatment

 Re-profile the surface of the pile by using micro concrete, Renderoc RG
 Mark the area and cut the HDPE so that it is tightly sit at all the corners use double sided tape, HDPE
Sealed tape to overlap with another HDPE membrane which will be 50mm above the profiled pile cap
as shown in the picture. (Make sure that there should not be any wrinkles)

 Fill the 50mm gap by Supercast EPT (Epoxy grout)

constructive solutions

 After the 24 hours when epoxy is totally set, Apply Nitoproof 600PF over pile cap starting from
horizontal, over HDPE-P membrane do overlapping of 150mm. after second coat, When Nitoproof
600 is still wet do sand sprinkling for mechanical key for concrete.

Pressure Release pipe and Rock anchoring treatment:

 Apply SW-X swellable paste across the PVC pipe at the intervals of 25mm.
 Cut the HDPE-P membrane to form a lining for the PVC pipe with 30mm dia additional to the dia of
pipe so that it can be used as shuttering for filling the epoxy grout. The cut out of HDPE-P should be
at least 100mm height to the PVC plus 50mm to the horizontal HDPE-P to form a round L- section
surrounding the pipe.
 Fix the cut out of HDPE-P to the horizontal HDPE-P membrane to form a shuttering across the PVC
pipe with sanded portion facing outside.

constructive solutions

 Fill the gap by Supercast EPW, Epoxy grout. Once the epoxy sets and it is bonded with HDPE-P
membrane apply Nitoproof 600 starting from horizontal and 100mm above the PVC pipe.
 Do the sand shrinking after the second coat of Nitoproof 600.

APPLICATION ON THE RETAINING WALL

Step 1: Surface Preparation of the Retaining Wall
The RCC surface shall be thoroughly cleaned to remove all spalled/cracked/loose concrete by chipping. Any
trace of loose plaster, oil grease and any other material that might affect adhesion is to be removed by wire
brushing the surface. Any sharp protrusion shall be remove before application of membrane.

Step 2: Treatment to Construction Joints

 Supercast SW 20-All the construction joints to be installed with Swellable water stops
 Supercast SW20 should be used to prevent the passage of water through non-movement
construction joints
 Parallel strip of Supercast SW20 shall be provided running at a gap of 150mm/cc considering the
wall thickness approximately 600mm
 Cracks if any to be trated before proceeding with waterproofing system. All cracks to be cut in V-
groove shape (approx. 10 mmx10 mm) using mechanical cutter and clean the same to remove any
loose dust, dirt etc. Prepare Polymer Modified Mortar (PMM) by mixing cement: sand in 1:3
proportion and modified Nitobond SBR Latex dosage @ 2-5 % by weight of cement. Fill the
prepared joints using PMM and finish in level with existing concrete surface. Allow the same to
cure for 24 hrs.

TREATMENT TO TIE ROD HOLE

Treatment to Tie Rod Hole:
 Chip off the PVC tie rod for a depth of 50mm on both the sides of the opening in wall
 Pack the hole with non-shrink micro concrete Conbextra GP2 for the full depth of the hole and
allow to dry for minimum 3 days
 Cover the tie rod hole portion with 200mm x 200mm details strip

Step 3: Application of Primer

 It has to be ensured that the moisture content in the concrete should be less than 5% before
priming
 Prepared surface shall be primed using Proofex Tack Coat Primer using suitable brush or roller.
 Only primer an area to which the Proofex 3000V can be applied on the same day.
 Very porous surface may require more than one coat of primer.

Step 4: Application of Waterproofing Membrane – Proofex 3000V

 Cut the Proofex 3000V to length allowing 150 mm for the end laps and position by peeling back the
release paper and applying the self-adhesive face to the prepared surface.
 Press the film firmly ensuring that the adhesive bitumen compound bonds continuously to the
substrate with no air pockets.
 Starting from the top of the wall, work down by progressively removing the release paper in stages.
 Proofex 3000V should be applied to ensure that all end laps are staggered.
 Each roll must overlap the next layer by minimum 75 mm at the adjacent and minimum 150 mm at
the ends. In cold weather temporary batten support of the Proofex 3000V membrane is
recommended

Step 4: Termination of the Waterproofing Membrane – Proofex 3000V

Proofex 3000V to be taken up to minimum 300 mm above the Top slab

Step 5: Protection of the Waterproofing Membrane – Proofex 3000V

 Protection is to be done by using suitable 8 mm thick dimpled protection board which is to be fixed
by the means of spot bonding or suitable adhesive or Proofex Protection board
 Backfilling of mooram soil to be carried out
