Have you ever thought about striking out on your own? After all, being your own
boss can be an exciting prospect. However, owning a business isn’t for everyone. To be
a successful entrepreneur, you must have -- or develop -- certain personality traits.
Entrepreneurs
- a person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on
greater than normal financial risks in order to do so.
- an individual who, rather than working as an employee, runs a small business
venture, idea, or good or service offered for sale
ATTRIBUTES OF AN ENTREPRENEUR
1. Ambitious - you have a vision and a gut- wrenching need to see it through. Without a
vision, your boat will be lost at sea.
2. Self- confident/ Optimistic - you may waiver at times, but you have to believe in
yourself and your business. You should have a positive mental attitude. If you
maintain your confidence, continue to stay positive, you will be successful.
3. Humble - can you check your ego? You may need to ask for help to hit certain
milestones. One should be open to advice and have chosen the right people around.
Successful entrepreneurs do not only give orders, but also listen to advices from
mentors, industry friends, not necessarily using the advices but listening to them.
4. Passionate - we start business were passionate about but remember to be realistic
also because emotion, bias & sentiment can result in poor choices. There will be
tough days but your passion will carry you through.
5. Hardworking - you wear all the hats. Therefore, you will end up wearing several
different hats, including secretary, bookkeeper and so on. You need to be mentally
prepared to take on all these tasks, expect long hours, especially in the beginning.
6. Communicator - able to easily pass information and listen to staff and customers to
help them understand the exact nature of their job and the results expected and also
to encourage customers to buy and influence bankers or investors to supply money.
You need to be able to accurately exchange information in a fast moving world using
a variety of communication methods (e.g., interpersonal, electronic).
7. Perseverance - you need to be able to sell your business and yourself to anyone at
any time. Still keep motivated, remain focused at all times, they just never take NO
for an answer, simply never give up on their dreams.
8. Creative /Resourceful - ability to create a product, constantly innovating and thinking
outside the box .
9. Comfortable with Risk - you have to love the idea of a calculated risk because it is
you who is making decisions. You can reduce your risk by thoroughly researching
your business concept, industry and market. You can also test your concept on a
small scale.
10. Technically skilled/ knowledgeable - you have to be good at what you do for your
business to succeed. Often means getting additional education and training on an
