Rationale
Many streets in the Philippines, especially in urban areas, lack adequate street lighting
which is a cause of the increasing number of car accidents and crimes. Potential hazards such
as robberies, violent crimes, and car accidents could happen anytime in unlit roads and streets.
Without sufficient lighting, it is significantly more challenging for drivers to see possible road
dangers, traffic signs, other automobiles, pedestrians, and cyclists. Nevertheless, poor lighting
might make some traffic dangers worse. Even when other cars' headlights are on, it might be
difficult for drivers to see other vehicles when it is pitch black outside. Turns, lane merges, and
lane changes are particularly risky due to a poor visibility of the driver.
Streetlights can reduce the likelihood of an accident by improving drivers' visibility of
other nearby vehicles. Thus, the Group name is enacted to reduce the potential hazards and to
promote safety in urban areas and streets without proper lighting by providing street lights which
are powered by solar energy. Street lighting enhances pedestrian safety and visibility. By
making it possible for drivers and pedestrians to see one another, street lighting increases
safety. Many streets of Consolacion lack street lights, especially to urban places which causes
potential risks and hazards. To lessen the crime and accidents from increasing, providing cost-
efficient solar powered street lights will make the areas brighter and decrease the potential
risks.
Lighting up the streets when sunlight is not available which is powered by the built-in
battery technology. Also, the batteries can be recycled and won't affect the environment. Using
a solar powered street light brings many benefits to the users as it is immune to power outages,
easy installation, safe and durable, energy saving and environmentally-friendly , and one of high
technology and low maintenance light giver. The cost of street lights powered by solar energy
are inexpensive. Solar street lights are raised light sources which are powered by solar panels
often installed on the lighting structure or integrated into the pole itself. An LED or fluorescent
bulb is powered by the rechargeable battery that is charged by the solar panels during the day.
Furthermore, street lights powered by solar energy require less maintenance than conventional
models. They are less likely to overheat. Accident risk is reduced by the lack of external cables
on solar lines. Accidents frequently occur to the staff members who repair the street light.
Project Description
Due to the absence of street lights, people are exposed to security concerns and lack of
safety, particularly when teenagers pass by on their way to or from other places. As they travel
home on the road in the night time and darkness, motorists and other road users are more
susceptible to accidents and might be exposed to hazards. This project, which aims to install
street lights, will offer a potential solution to the problem in this area. A secure residence is
needed in the community. Given the advantages that solar-powered street lights provide, their
construction would be very beneficial and a better choice than a traditional one. In contrast to
conventional lights, which rely on electricity produced from nonrenewable fossil fuels and are
constrained by power outages, the source of this energy, known as solar energy, is non
polluting, low maintenance, and renewable. Solar-powered street lights are already well-
designed to operate continuously with little maintenance . Solar lights are considered cost-
effective. Also, they won't damage the environment. These lights are praised highly for their
cutting-edge characteristics and they are suitable for both residential and industrial uses.
Additionally, they are impressive-looking and require little maintenance.
The installation of streetlights will mark the beginning of development and be a huge aid
because the (barangay ) is among the most isolated places. The barangay will be surrounded
by street lights that will brighten the area, especially at night, eliminating any danger and
insecurity.
The Group Name is a project with the goal to provide street lights to the urban areas and
streets that lacks adequate lighting. The project will take place in the urban areas and streets of
Consolacion. Solar-powered street lights will be installed to the streets that needs lighting. Since
it is powered by solar energy, its construction is simple and fast. Furthermore, it will be cost-
efficient since it will not use the resource energy and will have no cables or wires since it has its
own source of energy. These street lights will absorb solar energy and will automatically turn on
during the night. The solar-powered street lights will less likely need of maintainance since it
does not overheat.
The aim of the project is to promote safety by installing street lights to urban areas. By
doing so, it could reduce potential hazards such as car accidents and violent crimes. With street
lights, the drivers will have a better vision at night, thus decreasing the risk of accidents from
happening. Potential crimes such as robberies, murder or rape could decrease by implenting
lights that may decrease these from occuring. Since the street lights are powered by solar
energy, it is eco-friendly. It does not need cables and wires that could potentially harm the
environment and it only needs the sunlight as its source of energy.
Objectives
- Implementing solar-powered street lights to urban areas or streets with no adequate
lighting.
- To reduce vulnerability and prevent road users from accidents.
- To promote safety to the people walking the streets
- To have a better environment while also conserving energy.
Methodology
1. First, the team will explain to the( Municipal ,chairman) what the project that the team is
going to do.
2. Second, the team will explain the purpose of the project and how beneficial for the
people in the community this project is.
3. Once the team asked for their approval, the team will look for someone to build/support
the (PROJECT NAME).
4. Lastly, to make sure that the (PROJECT NAME) result for success, the team will
observe and will make sure that it has better improvement day by day.
Project Needs
The project is an innovation that will be using technical and mechanical equipment; thus it will
need both a technician and a mechanical personnel. Furthermore, the project also need an
empty lot area where street light can be possibly installed. Additionally, solar panels and certain
metals are also needed to build the exterior design of the streetlight. Meanwhile, some wires
and electrical tools are also needed in order to set-up the overall circulation of the streelight's
power system. Lastly, and most importantly, the project needs the financial support of the
municipal chairman to make all the plans possible.
Evaluation
Intended Outcomes and Success Indicators
The main result is that the street in the barangay will be lit up and it will increase security for the
residents and improve the appearance of the neighborhood; thus it improves pedestrian visibility
and personal security. . Also, It will also reduce the barangay's electricity bill and protect it from
future cost pressure. Additionally, it will also reduce accidents and make it more comfortable for
people to cross the street. Meanwhile, the success indicators of the project are the following:
reduced rate of vehicular accident; minimized bills from using electricity; increased visitors of the
area where the streetlight is installed. These are the factors that the team.will evaluate in order
to measure the success of the project.
Detailed success indicators:
● Reduced accidents resulting in personal injuries by 25%
● Reduced the number of fatal accidents by 60%
● Reduced accidents involving pedestrians by 45%
● Reduced accidents at junctions by 35%
● Reduced electricity bills by 30%
● Increased area visitors by 80%
