Lesson Plan Heat and Temperature

This daily lesson plan aims to teach students about heat and temperature. Students will define and differentiate between heat and temperature. They will learn that heat is the energy transfer between objects of different temperatures, while temperature measures how hot or cold an object is. To demonstrate this, the teacher will show students cold water with ice and hot water. Students will also participate in an activity where they predict and test the temperature of different materials. By the end of the lesson, students should understand the relationship between heat and temperature.

DAILY LESSON PLAN HEAT AND TEMPERATURE

I. Lesson Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
 State/Define HEAT and TEMPERATURE;
 Explain the relationship between HEAT and TEMPERATURE;

Content Standard
HEAT and TEMPERATURE

II. Content
Heat is the energy transfer that takes place between objects of different temperatures.
Temperature is a measure of how hot or cold an object is

III. Learning Resources

A. References:
 Teacher’s Guide

B. Materials and Equipment:

Cold water with ice

Hot water

IV. Developmental Activities

PROCEDURE TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
Engage Prayer
Greetings.

Checking of Attendance.
Communicate Learning Objectives.

Motivation/ Introduce and Define the following terms involved in HEAT

Presentation of the lesson and TEMPERATURE

A. HEAT is the amount of Kinetic energy within an

object.
B. Heat is the energy transfer that takes place Students attentively listens to the
between objects of different temperatures teacher.
C. Temperature is a measure of how hot or cold an
object is

First, I will show two objects with different temperature.

Water with cubes of ice and hot water.

Explaining that the two examples have different

temperature and that one is cold, and the other is hot.

But as they stay within room temperature their

temperature will be the same.

The difference between the cold and hot water is the

amount of kinetic energy within them. Where hot water
has higher amount of kinetic energy than the cold water.

Ask students of other examples of hot and cold objects or Students’ answers may vary.
areas.

Explore Activity 1: Materials with different temperature

4 containers of small materials with differing head

conduction rates are placed at each table.

“Predict the temperature of each container.

How do you think each will feel if you place your hand in
them?”.

Students design an experiment and create a data table to

test their hypothesis.

Explain

1. Discuss the data with the class. Through inquiry

questions, allow students to differentiate between
temperature and heat. Questions can include:

a. “Why do some materials feel cooler? How could we test

that hypothesis?”

b. “How does your brain determine hot and cold?

Elaborate Heat is measured by Joules; it is the quantity of Kinetic

energy within an object. Temperature is the measurement
of how hot or cold an object or area. Low temperature
does not mean the absence of heat, you can quantify heat
using the formula: Heat = mass x specific heat capacity x
change in temperature or

Evaluation Let students’ site and draw at least 3 examples of things

that are hot and cold.

Students then should answer the following questions:

1. How can objects be hot or cold?

2. What is the difference between heat and
temperature?
3. Does heat transfer occur on your examples? If
yes, explain how.
