02 Lab Report

This document is a report on determining the resistance of various DC conductors. It was submitted by a group of 6 students to their professor for a physics experiment course. The experiment involved connecting a DC circuit with a variable power supply, voltmeter, ammeter and resistor and recording current and voltage values. Measurements were taken at different voltages and the resistance was calculated using Ohm's law. A graph of voltage vs. current was plotted. The average resistance calculated from the observations was determined to be 6.2 ohms.

Experiment:

To determine the resistance of various DC conductors by recording their current

voltage characteristics.

Principle:

A DC motor is an electrical machine which converts electrical energy into

mechanical energy. The basic working principle of DC motor is that whenever a current
carrying conductor places in the magnetic field, it experiences as mechanical force.

Apparatus:

Variable power supply, voltmeter, rheostat, resistance box, key, connecting

wires.

Procedure:

1) I took a variable power supply and connected its positive terminal to carry by using a
connecting wire.

2) I made a connection between the other terminal of Key with the fire terminal of
rheostat and connected then sliding terminal of ammeter.

3) Then I connected the negative terminal of ammeter with both positive terminal of
voltmeter and one side of resistance.

4) I joined other terminal of resistor box and negative terminal of voltmeter with negative
terminal of power supply.

5) I turned on the key and noted the value of ammeter and voltmeter and calculated the
value of resistance of whole system by using Ohm's law.
R=V/I

6) I repeated the same experiment many times and noted values in the observation table.

1)
2.45 0.391 6.21

2)
4.41 0.678 6.50

3)
6.90 1.169 5.90

Table : 1

Rm = 6.2 ohm.

Result:
The Resistance of the DC component is 6.2 ohm.
