2.1 HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION (HSE) POLICY

1. HSE POLICY STATEMENT
It is the policy of Akron Trade and Transport to operate and manage vessels in a safe and
environment friendly manner. We shall exercise our individual responsibility for health, safety and
environmental protection in all our activities and strive for continuous improvement in the level of
services provided.
COMMITMENT
The Company is committed to achieving the highest management standards with particular
emphasis placed upon marine safety, safe working practices and the protection of the marine
environment.
The Company is committed to provide the necessary resources and training in support of our policy
and objectives while complying with all applicable national and international rules and regulations.
OBJECTIVES
HSE objectives of the Company are :
1. To provide safe and efficient cargo transportation and supply services in accordance
with the applicable international, national and local regulatory requirements.
2. Provide for safe practices in ship operation and a safe marine environment.
3. To prevent human injury and loss of life by providing a safe working environment and
adopting safe practices.
4. To prevent marine pollution and damage to property.
5. To ensure safety at sea by assessing all identified risks to the ships, personnel and
the environment and establishing appropriate safeguards.
6. To ensure safety at sea by establishing an emergency response system for identified
emergency situations and preparing personnel for emergencies through training and
drills.
7. To maintain a competent and motivated work force through training and continuous
improvement of health, safety and environmental management skills.
8. To ensure safe and healthy working conditions to employees ashore and onboard
vessels.
The high standards of safety and pollution prevention shall be achieved by operating a Safety
Management System which meets the requirements of ISM Code IMO Res. A 741 (18), as
amended, and by taking into account all applicable codes, guidelines and standards recommended
by IMO, Flag States and other maritime industry organizations.
The company recognizes the importance of the involvement and commitment of top management in
the implementation of the policy.
Compliance with this policy is mandatory for all staff ashore and onboard involved with the Safety
Management System and this policy is periodically reviewed by the top management. Safety and
pollution prevention is everybody’s responsibility. All shore staff, sea staff and contractors visiting
onboard are instructed to adhere to this policy and the requirements of the SMS procedures and
instructions to meet the objectives of this policy.
