The goal of this study is to determine if Malunggay (Moringa Oleifera) leaf extract can be used
as an alternative treatment for treating open wounds. The study intends to answer the
following questions in particular:
Can the vitamins, minerals, and other essential phytochemical extracted from ma-
lunggay leaves be feasible to use as a component in an alternative wound ointment?
• Can the candle wax contribute to the ointment's consistency structure?
• Are the processes such as steeping the malunggay leaves in the carrier oil efficient
to extract the medicinal constituents of the plant?
H01 : There is no significant difference in Moringa Oleifera leaves as an alternative oint-
ment in healing wounds.
H02: There is a significant difference in Moringa Oleifera leaves as an alternative ointment
in healing wounds
Now, let me introduce Ms. Joy Abad for the Significance of the Study
Malunggay leaves offer antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic capabilities, according to
traditional healers. Furthermore, scientific evidence of phytochemical substances from
Malunggay leaves has been uncovered, which includes a variety of clinically relevant anti-
inflammatory phenolic glycosides.
The study of Shaik, et al., 2018, they utilized moringa leaves extract to make four different
ointment formulations with different bases such cetostearyl alcohol, hard paraffin, and liquid
paraffin. Different factors were assessed and they stated that All formulations were
determined to be grittiness-free, has smooth homogenous texture, and glossy appearance.
Upon that basis of their findings, it can be stated that ointment formulations utilizing Moringa
oleifera leaf extract proved their method's feasibility for ointment production.
Tell me about your study.
Our study is about producing an alternative ointment for wounds using moringa oleifera
leaves. This study aims to prove the feasibility of malunggay leaf extract as a substitute
treatment for scratches, light burns, and open wounds. and our study's primary goal only aims
to produce an alternative ointment out of Malunggay using the principal components, which
are the Malunggay, the herbal infused oil, coconut oil, and candles. This study was conducted
and limited within the vicinity of Cagayan de Oro City, and the researchers will no longer take
tests due to the amount of time frame given.
Why did you choose this study?
We chose this study because herbal plants offer the most potential for assisting people,
particularly those living in remote areas. Specifically, we conducted this research to have or
make and produce an alternative product using moringa oleifera to heal wounds. This
research may be beneficial to those who cannot afford to purchase any medicine for their
wounds. the researchers chose Moringa Oleifera as the key component because of its herbal
capabilities, and since the plant is accessible and easier for the researchers to obtain. There
are also numerous studies that could complement our research and provide valuable
information in looking for another alternatives.
What is the Significance of the Study
This research or study is of great significance since those people who have malunggay in
their houses or any herbal plant may use our study and follow the process in making an
alternative ointment product. Also, this paper will serve as basis for future researchers who
plan to explore the same topic.
Scope and delimitaion
The study only aims to produce an alternative ointment out of Malunggay leaves. This study
was conducted and limited within the vicinity of Cagayan de Oro City, and the researchers will
no longer take tests due to the amount of time frame given.
How long did it take to make your product?
It took an hour or so since we steep the malunggay leaves for 45 minutes and we let the
infused oil be cool before filtration and melting of the wax.
Are the processes such as steeping the malunggay leaves in the carrier oil efficient
to extract the medicinal constituents of the plant?
The researchers believe that it is efficient because we used the heat infusion method which is
the double-boiler infusion. It provides precise temperature control, They create consistent and
radiant heat, it is to make sure that the nutrients of the plant is extracted.
What makes your study unique from the rest?
we made our own version of ointment that doesn’t require difficult procedures plus in our
study, we used a secnted candle wax unlike other studies that used paraffin wax.
What makes beeswax different from paraffin wax or other waxes?
- Beeswax does not contain any toxic substances that could ruin or irritate the skin.
Why did you use malunggay out of all plants?
- the researchers chose Moringa Oleifera as the key component because of its herbal
capabilities, and since the plant is accessible and easier for the researchers to obtain.
How would you know if it is not irritable from the skin?
- That is beyond our study maam/sir since it is stated in our scopes and delimitations that we
will not conduct any testing anymore due to the amount time frame given.
Give one rrl and how it contributed to your study.
The study of Shaikh, et al. 2018 tells us that moringa oleifera is feasible ingredient to use in
producing alternative ointment. They prepared Four different ointment formulations using
Moringa oleifera extract in different ratio and they stated that All formulations were found to be
free of grittiness, homogeneous, it means the ointment was smooth and consistent, and it
also has glossy appearance. Their study assisted us in developing a malunggay alternative
ointment using a new approach.
What is the method of shaikh’s study?
They spread the leaves in sunlight, then they crushed the leaves with a little amount of water
to obtain the leaf juice. The leaf juice was filtered twice and was shade dried, they also added
a little amount of absolute alcohol to the juice to prevent the growth of microorganisms. Then
it was refluxed for how many hours with absolute alcohol. Their process was lengthy po and it
takes a long amount of time to do the same, so we conducted our study with different
approach or method.
Can the candle wax contribute to the ointment's consistency structure?
The candle wax contributed to the semi-solid consistency form of the ointment. It formed a
base for the said ointment.
What have you concluded?
We conclude that the essential nutrients of Moringa oleifera are a viable component for use in
the development of a wound alternative ointment, The candle wax adds to the structure of the
ointment, namely the semisolid consistency form of the ointment. And the researchers believe
that the processes used such as the double-boiler infusion method of heat infusion is efficient
since It provides precise temperature control, as well as constant and radiant heat. These
findings were formed in response to the questions posed in our statement of the problem.
What motivates you in conducting this study?
The thought of success and, of course, of assisting others by offering this study for the
community aided us in achieving and completing our research.
