The traditional Filipino "Bahay Kubo" or nipa hut is a resilient architecture that is well-adapted to the Philippines' tropical climate and natural disasters. However, the traditional materials like nipa leaves used for the roof are susceptible to damage from heavy rainfall. Modern adaptations could make the Bahay Kubo more resilient by using materials like galvanized iron sheets for the roof and reinforcing the structure with concrete columns and pedestals to withstand flooding and strong winds. A combination of traditional wood materials and modern techniques like using borates can also help make the bamboo structures more fire-resistant. Overall, improving the Bahay Kubo's resilience through selective use of modern materials can help the traditional architecture better withstand the Philippines

1. What comes in your mind when you hear the words

"Sustainable Design"?
First thing that comes into my mind when i hear sustainable design is the word "friendly", And That is just one
way to put it. Friendly being to the planet, by using green materials mainly recycled materials that wouldn't
contribute to the planets continuously growing wastes.

Next is friendly to the energy source, one thing to consider in making a sustainable design is it's carbon
footprints, Such measures are founded in the knowledge that the natural resources we have at our disposal are
finite. It's a future-focused approach which shows respect both for the planet and for ourselves.

And finally friendly to the well-being of the occupants. Designing sustainable building practices can also
improve the health and happiness of residents, as easy as improved air and water quality in the design. And the
benefits of being around sustainable, natural materials have been shown to increase feelings of wellbeing.
Sustainability helps in ensuring a better life for present while still being friendly to the future generations.
