CHAPTER III: METHODOLOGY
RESEARCH DESIGN
The research design according to methods that the authors use in conducting the study
is a Descriptive, it is non-experimental research. And, according to techniques it is a
quantitative and qualitative but focuses more in qualitative research. Also, it is basic research,
according to its purpose.
Descriptive because it aims to accurately and systematically describe a population,
phenomenon or situation about how sports differently affect the students’ academic
performance and the students’ development.
Quantitative and Qualitative because the study deals with numbers and statistics of
how many students choose what’s the best answer for the survey questionnaire. And also, it
deals with words and meanings, because survey questionnaire aims to know the perception of
students towards sports.
It is basic research because it is a systematic study that is directed towards
understanding of the fundamental aspects of situations and observable facts. It also aims to
improve theories for better understanding and prediction of natural or other phenomena
without specific applications towards processes or products in mind. Because it involves
understanding students on how sports affect the students’ development.
RESEARCH RESPONDENTS
The research respondents of the study are the SPS students and other random student-
athletes in Kananga National High School. Specifically, the researchers just choose 8 sample
students in each grade level of SPS and 8 other students that are athletes in the regular
section, a total of 40 respondents in Kananga National High School.
RESEARCH TOOLS
The research tools that are used in the study is Questionnaire. It is a systematic
compilation of question that are submitted to a sampling of population from which
information’s desired. It refers to a device for securing answers to question by using a form
which the respondents fill in himself. The researchers gathered the data through survey by
using the survey questionnaire.
RESEARCH LOCALE
The study is conducted inside the campus of Kananga National High School, it is
located at Real St., Kananga, Leyte. The survey was conducted inside the classroom, namely
SPS-7, SPS-8, SPS-9, SPS-10 and Capricorn-10. And the research paper is encoded at the
house of the researchers/authors.
STATISTICAL TREATMENT
This technique is used to determine the proportion of the total of respondents to the number
of respondents to each choices.
P=f/Nx100
Where:
P= Percentage
f= Frequency
n= Number of Respondents
1. Do you support the SPS program of KNHS?
P=f/nX100
A. P=6/40X100
P=
2. How does SPS program help the students of KNHS?
3. Is it possible for a student6 in SPS to excel in sports as well as in other fields?]
4. Is there a significant relationship between students’ development and their
