Questions

Current System

1. What exactly is the problem we are trying to solve? Does everybody agree on the problem?
2. Who is the system being developed for? i.e., Stakeholders, Management etc.
3. Why is the project being requested? Why is it important?
4. Which bits do you like? Which bits do not work?
5. The case study says, “Local Uni students have helped staff with an ad hoc system”, can you
talk me through how that works?
6. How efficient is Holloways current inventory system in comparison to their competition?
7. How does this system influence the competitiveness of Holloway’s in their market sector?
8. If profit turnover is increasing with the current inventory system, why are you requesting to
replace it? What are these so-called inadequacies which you hint at in the case study?

Computers

9. What condition are the current computers in? good working order? Do they have all
different operating systems? Are they secure?
10. What is the aim with the fully integrated computer-based inventory system, are there any
targets the business is expected to reach?
11. Has the use of an ad-hoc improved the inventory recording and control systems? If yes, how
so?

Orders and Stock

12. Do you keep information on your customers or the small retailers you stick currently? If so,
how?
13. You are currently processing 300-500 orders per working day, how do you know your stock
status without a system?
14. If you could imagine a perfect stock control system, what would it look like?
15. What consequences could the new system cause? (A new interface or system may cause
additional training to be needed or understanding new technologies)
16. When does this need to be in place by? Is there a deadline?
17. Where is the system going to be tested and developed? Do they have a team to do this? Is it
online or in house only?
18. Why is this solution the right one? Is there an alternative?
19. If the stakeholder is asking this to be developed, how does the stakeholder want the solution
to work?

Staff

20. Your case study does not mention the various roles of the staff, what are they?
21. When you get your new system, do you have the funds and staff capacity to learn and
maintain it?
22. How is staff morale in the business? What’s impacting it?

Business Processing

23. Who did your business processing that does not show expansion? Why? If it doesn’t show
expansion, how do you know you have for the past 2 years?
24. What data is essential for the operation of the business’ current inventory processing
system?

Finishing Questions

25. If I you could change 3 things in the business to make it work better, what would they be?
26. Could you give us a rough estimate on the budget available to us for this project ?
