CLEARANCES

1 Telecommunication Line crossing - The angle of crossing shall be as near as 90 deg. as possible
however deviation to an extent of 30 deg may be permitted under the exceptionally difficult situation.
For crossing angle below 60 deg , matter shall be refered to respective authorities.
Minimum distance between 220 kv D/C conductor & telecommunication lines shall be 3.0 m under
hot sag conductor condition

2 Limiting Distance between Angle Points - The number of consecutive spans between section towers
shall not exceed 15 Spans or 5 km whichever is lower in plain terrain.
In Hilly terrain number of consecutive towers shall be restricted to 10 spans or 3 kms, whichever is lower.
The section tower shall either be tower type MDY

3 Ground Clearance - The minimum ground clearance required shall be 7500 mm

4 Road crossing - For all the important road crossing, tension tower is to be used and the crossing span
shall not be exceed 200 meters. The minimum clearance between conductor and road top
surface shall be 7.5 m under hot sag condition. However it is preferable to keep 3.0m extra clearance.

5 Right of way - The right of way clearance shall be maintained as 35 m .

6 Span limitations - The permissible sum of adjacent spans of various angle of deviation are
subject to the condition that minimum specified live metal clearance & minimum ground clearance are available.
are available
The wind span for MAY+18m / +25m BE and MDY +18m /+25m BE shall be restricted to 250 m and
a limitation of 500m for sum of adjacent spans
7 No uplift in Tower type "MAY". - Tower "MAY" shall be spotted such that
vertical load of individual spans shall be acting downward only.

8 Electrical Clearance for Railway crossing
i Prior approval of Railway authority shall be obtained.
ii Mininum clearnce between lowest point of 220 kv line conductor and top of rail track
shall be minimum 17.9m under hot sag condition however approval of railway crossing from
railway authority shall be obtained in each railway crossing proposal
iii Mininum clearnce to be maintained between highest traction conductor and lowest
transmission line crossing conductor shall be 6580 mm for 220 kv.
as per regulation of power line crossing at railway tracks 1987.
