QUESTION 1
QUESTION 2
An 8-pole generator, having lap-wound armature winding has 58 slots, each slot
containing 30 conductors. Determine the voltage that will be generated in the
machine when driven at 1600 rpm assuming the flux per pole to be 7.0 mWb.
a) A 250 KVA rated transformer has full load copper loss of 2 kW and a core loss of
1 kW. Determine the efficiency at half-load and 0.8 power factor.
b) A d.c. motor takes an armature current of 118 A at 490 V. The armature circuit
resistance is 0.25 Ω. The machine has 6 poles and the armature is wave-
connected with 900 conductors. The flux per pole is 0.07 Wb. Calculate
(i) the speed and
(ii) the gross torque developed by the armature.
QUESTION 3
a) A 120 kVA transformer has 800 turns on the primary and 200 turns on the
secondary. The primary and secondary resistances are 0.6 Ω and 0.03 Ω
respectively, and the corresponding leakage reactances are 1.4 Ω and 0.04 Ω
respectively. The supply voltage is 2300 V. Calculate the equivalent impedance
referred to the primary circuit.
b) A 30kVA, 2300/230V, 50Hz single-phase transformer’s low voltage side is short-
circuited and the test data recorded from the high voltage side are P = 180 W, I 1 =
8 A and V1 = 60 V. Determine the
(i) equivalent resistance, reactance and impedance referred to primary side
and
(ii) equivalent resistance, reactance and impedance referred to secondary
side
QUESTION 4
The terminal voltage of a 30-kW compound generator is 230 V. The armature, series
and shunt windings have the resistances of 0.06 Ω, 0.04 Ω and 60 Ω respectively.
Determine the generated emf when the generator is connected in a long shunt.
QUESTION 5
A 230-V, 8 kW, four-pole, 60-Hz, star-connected induction motor has a full-load slip
of 4%. Determine
