“Should Divorce be Legalized in the Philippines?

Marriage is a legally and socially sanctioned union, usually between a man and a woman, that is
regulated by laws, rules, customs, beliefs, and attitudes that prescribe the rights and duties of the
partners and accords status to their offspring. It is ceremony for the couple to be one according to the
law and church. It the decision of both partners to spend the rest of their life in each other’s arms a
create a family on their own. Vows are made and are promised in front of the sacred altar or in the
court, that couples swear to follow to in their relationship. But, despite the enchanting moment of their
weddings, couples will fight and will encounter problems that would test their relationship and love for
each other. It leads to many situations and separation is one of them. Should divorce be legalized in the
Philippines?

Divorce should remain illegal in our country. The Filipinos should remain their faith in love and should
remain its value. Love waters relationships to grow, and challenges strengthens relationship. A
relationship is a bond between two people where both partners became part on each other’s life, and
according to them marriage is a happy ending. But it seems the other way for those who lost each other
along the way. They fight for some reasons and would decide settle for separation eventually. This is
why divorce should not be legalized. It would make people think that there’s nothing to be afraid of
marriage for it can be undone if they have changed their minds. The value of marriage would be put to
waste if the legalization happens. It does not only affect the couple but the children also if there are any.
Large number of Filipinos are suffering and are a product of a broken family. Separation of parents
affects the mental and emotional well-being of the children in the family. Divorce is just similar as
allowing cheating. It leaves damage to family members and scars on their hearts. And would make them
lose faith in love and marriage.

There are still lots of reasons why divorce should not be legalized in our country. Divorce is still not
allowed and should remain that way because marriage is not just a choice, but it is a choice that comes
with a great responsibility. You chose to spend the rest of your life with your partner until you’ve made
your own family along the way. You both exchange vows and promised to be each other’s strength on
circumstances that you’ll meet along the way, and to provide your family that best way you can.
