By eliminating the pinion head bearing, Detroit Diesels proprietary tandem axles allow more space for a larger and stronger differential. Weve also added a patent pending oil deflector to fully lubricate the power divider, and positioned the pinion gear above-center to reduce driveline vibrations. With advanced engineering like this, you cant help but notice increased longevity and lower maintenance costs.
The differential case is half integrated in the ground wheel. Elimination of a pinion head bearing allows the use of a larger differential.
The oil deflector** ensures full lubrication of the power divider at very low vehicle speeds. Therefore, an oil pump is necessary only for special applications. ** Patent pending.
