OptiX RTN 905 s Radio Transport System
Product Description 1 Introduction
There are two methods for mounting the ODU and the antenna: direct mounting
and separate mounting.
● Direct mounting is generally adopted when a small- or medium-diameter
single-polarized antenna is used. In this case, one ODU is used with one
antenna, and the ODU is directly mounted at the rear of the antenna. Figure
1-3 shows direct mounting.
Figure 1-3 Direct mounting
● Separate mounting is generally adopted when a large- or medium-diameter
single-polarized antenna is used. Figure 1-4 shows separate mounting.
Figure 1-4 Separate mounting
NOTE
The OptiX RTN 905 s provides a full-band antenna solution that offers antennas with a
diameter of 0.3 m to 3.7 m and the corresponding antenna accessories.

3.2 ODU
The ODU is an integrated device that is available in several models. Different
models of ODUs have basically the same structure and working principle.
Block Diagram
Figure 3-8 Block diagram of the ODU
Signal Processing in the Transmit Direction
The multiplexer splits the signal coming from the IF cable into a 350 MHz IF
signal, a 5.5 MHz O&M uplink signal, and a –48 V DC power signal.
In the transmit direction, the IF signal is processed as follows:
1. The IF signal is converted into an RF signal by means of frequency up-
conversion, filtering and amplification, and then is sent to the amplifier unit
(AMP).
2. The AMP amplifies the RF signal (the output power of the signal can be
regulated by IDU software).
3. The amplified RF signal is sent to the antenna through the duplexer.
The O&M uplink signal is a 5.5 MHz ASK-modulated signal and is demodulated in
the control unit (CTRL).
The –48 V DC power signal is sent to the power unit (PWR) where the secondary
power supplies are generated and provided to the modules of the ODU.
Signal Processing in the Receive Direction
The duplexer separates the RF signal from the antenna signal. The low noise
amplifier (LNA) amplifies the RF signal. The amplified RF signal is converted into a
140 MHz IF signal by means of frequency down-conversion, filtering and
amplification, and then is sent to the multiplexer.
The CTRL unit performs ASK modulation on the O&M downlink signal, and sends
the generated 10 MHz modulation signal to the multiplexer. The CTRL unit also

detects the receive signal power through the RSSI detection circuit and provides
the RSSI interface.
The multiplexer combines the received IF signal and O&M downlink signal, and
sends the combined signal to the IDU through the IF cable.

5.1.2 Receiver Sensitivity
The RTN 905 s supports Integrated IP microwave.
The IF board of the OptiX RTN 905 s supports the IS3 IF running mode.
NOTE
The guaranteed receiver sensitivity requires a 3 dB backoff from the typical value.
Unless otherwise specified (for example, XMC-3W ODU), the receiver sensitivity
specifications in the following tables do not vary with ODU types. However, the supported
frequency bands and modulation schemes vary with ODU types.
N/A means that microwave working mode is not supported.

5.2 Predicted Equipment Reliability
Equipment reliability consists of component reliability and link reliability.
Equipment reliability is measured by mean time between failures (MTBF), and
predicated equipment reliability complies with the Telcordia SR-332 standard.

OptiX RTN 905 s Radio Transport System
Product Description 5 Technical Specifications
NOTE
Failures in time (FITs) are an indicator of equipment reliability in the Telcordia SR-332 standard.
Both FITs and MTBF are affected by the quality level factor, electrical stress factor, and
temperature stress factor of the component.
The calculation formula between FITs and MTBF is as follows:
● FITs = 109/MTBF (hour)
● Annual failure rate (%) = [1/MTBF (year)] x 100%
5.2.1 Predicted Component Reliability
Component reliability refers to the reliability of a single component.
Table 5-24 lists the component reliability of Integrated IP microwave with typical
configuration.

5.2.2 Predicted Link Reliability
Link reliability refers to the equipment reliability of a microwave hop, indicating
the overall reliability of components involved.

6.3 DPD80-2-8 PDU
The DPD80-2-8 PDU is a new type of PDU that can be installed on the top of a
19-inch cabinet or an ETSI cabinet and distributes power to devices in the cabinet.
6.3.1 Front Panel and Internal Structure
The DPD80-2-8 PDU has two areas (area A and area B; each providing four power
switches) on its front panel and all cable ports inside it.
Front Panel
Figure 6-7 shows a universal PDU (DPD63-8-8 PDU). Different types of short-
circuit copper bars are used to match different types of power current supplied by
the power supply equipment in the equipment room. The DPD80-2-8 PDU is a 2-
input and 8-output PDU developed based on the DPD63-8-8 PDU.
On the front panel, area A and area B each receives one –48 V/–60 V power input
and provides four power outputs to subracks inside the cabinet.

Product Description 7 Cables
7 Cables
This chapter describes the purpose, appearance, and pin assignments of various
cables used on the IDU 905 s.
7.1 Power Cable
A power cable connects the power supply port on the IDU to a power supply
device (for example, a PDU on top of the cabinet) for access of the –48 V power
to the IDU.
7.2 IDU PGND Cable
An IDU PGND cable connects the left ground point of the IDU to the ground point
of external equipment (for example, the ground support of a cabinet) so that the
IDU and external equipment share the same ground.
7.3 IF Cable

7.6 Network Cable
A network cable connects two pieces of Ethernet equipment. Both ends of the
network cable are terminated with an RJ45 connector.
7.1 Power Cable
A power cable connects the power supply port on the IDU to a power supply
device (for example, a PDU on top of the cabinet) for access of the –48 V power
to the IDU.

is terminated with a TNC connector and is connected to an IF board.
NOTE
● If a 5D IF cable is used, you can connect the cable directly to an IF board instead of
using an IF jumper.
● If an RG-8U or 1/2-inch IF cable is used, an IF jumper is required to connect the RG-8U
or 1/2-inch IF cable to the IF board.

Straight-through cables are used between MDIs and MDI-Xs, and crossover cables
are used between MDIs or between MDI-Xs. The only difference between straight-
through cables and crossover cables is with regard to the pin assignment.
The NMS ports and Ethernet electrical service ports of the OptiX RTN 905 s
support the MDI and auto-MDI/MDI-X modes. Straight-through cables and
crossover cables can be used to connect these ports to MDIs or MDI-Xs.
