Experiment No 7 (Inclined - Plane)

This experiment observes the relationship between the angle of incline and the acceleration of an object. The apparatus includes an inclined plane kit, timer plates, and a data capture unit. The theory states that acceleration is the rate of change of velocity over time and can be calculated as a=g*sinθ, where g is acceleration due to gravity. The procedure involves measuring the acceleration of a trolley down inclined planes at various angles and plotting the average acceleration versus sinθ. The results show a direct relationship between sinθ and average acceleration, with the experimental value of g being close to the theoretical value.

Experiment No #7

To observe the relationship between the angle of incline & acceleration of a body
Apparatus:
 Inclined Plane Kit Apparatus
 Two timer plates
 Data capture unit

Clutch PlateApparatus:

Inclined PlaneApparatus

Theory:
Velocity:

Time rate of change displacement is known as velocity.

d
V= (m/s)
t

Acceleration:

Time rate of change of velocity is known as acceleration.

V
a= (m/s2)
t

Applying the second equilibrium condition

∑ F x =ma x
mg sin θ=ma

a=g sin θ

Procedure:
1. Weigh the trolley and note the mass.
2. Set the base of the plane level & set the clinometers to zero.
3. Raise the incline to 5° .
4. Let the trolley run down the slope and measure the acceleration.
5. Raise the angle to 10° and repeat the above step.
6. Repeat for 15° , 20° and 25° .
7. Calculate a avgfor each θ .
8. Plot a graph Between a avg&sin θ.
9. The gradient of the graph gives us the value of g.

Observation & Calculation:

This shows that there is direct relation between sinθ&a avg .

Comments:
The result varies from analytical values due to these reasons.

 Human Negligence
 Instrumental error
