Discussion in groups.
This session was refreshing since Ms. Dacosta and Ms. Cheveene discussed the importance
of EPortfolios as well as the process of becoming master teachers and everything that entails.
• After three years, you can reapply for the Master's position; and • information on the
assessment method was also provided during your first year as a beginning teacher in the
Jamaican education system. It also mentioned the knowledge database of lesson plans and
teaching-related instructional materials.

Winsome Gordon
love. Possibility, visual brilliance
Dr. Gordon also gave me a quote that I found pretty encouraging. It continues, "Today's
classroom philosophy is tomorrow's government philosophy."
She also urged us to be cautious in our career choices. She told us that we had to adjust to
new pay rates inside the system. If we lack the drive and ambition to pursue a career, we must
look into other possibilities. With commitment, self-worth, and respect, we will learn how
delightful the teaching profession is.
Correct and meaningful clothes have monetary worth. It is best to invest in a high-quality suit
rather than secondary apparel that will quickly deteriorate.

Margaret Chin
Ms. Chin began her presentation by identifying the topics she would be discussing in her
address. These subjects included the new teacher's responsibility in the classroom as well as
teacher ethics. According to Ms. Chin, the JTA is the target trade union in Jamaica and the
English-speaking Caribbean. The organization aspires to be the gold standard for teacher-
student collaboration.
Fairness, justice, quality, cooperation, innovation, and preservation are among the key
principles of the organization.
She gave some background information about the President and Past President of the
institution. Mr. Winston Smith, Laconia Harrison, Laton Johnson, Nadine Malloy, and Mr.
Winston Smith are among those honored.
There are 77 district organizations, 14 Parish Presidents, four regional offices, and a
publishing firm for aspiring authors.
The primary responsibilities of the JTA are as follows: labor union, professional organization,
salary and perks for members are negotiated, as service conditions such as working
conditions, legal assistance in discrimination and other legal concerns, membership
education, and international organization networking. They also promote the country's
educational interests as well as strong ethical standards of excellence.
JTA is the only trade union that meets with Minister Williams once a month to represent
teachers' issues. For almost 30 years, they have also provided discounts (discount cards),
Disney holidays and summer excursions, visa help, parent and child scholarships, preservice
and in-service teacher training, and teacher awards: Golden Torch. On May 11, they also hold
retirement seminars (calculate pensions) and join teachers on annual field trips. Finally, the
JTA gives $40,000 to teacher air travel.
Homeowner
Mr. Shawn Sybblis started his presentation by sharing the different types of contributors to
NHT. They are namely: employed, self-employed, and voluntary contributors
He then addressed how we qualify for a mortgage. According to Mr. Sybblis, contributors
must be between ages 18 to 70 and should be contributing to NHT for at least 1 year (52
weeks being the initial criteria).
There are different options for housing such as buying, and building houses.
If a person wants to buy houses, they can obtain 6.5 million dollars once they are
contributors. Also, up to 2 people can access 2 million and 3 family-related persons can get
19. million upon contributing to NHT. Any member can apply for benefits after contributing
for at least 3 months. There are numerous ways to become a homeowner. If you own a piece
of land legally, you will not need a deposit however it is necessary to get the approval of the
Parish Council. The surveyor report will allow for persons to get the necessary funding to
build houses on lands.
