Typography: - is the art and techniques of arranging type of to make writing

language legible, readable and appealing when displayed. The arrangement of type

involve selecting types faces point sizes, line lengths, line spacing (Leading) and

letter spacing (Tracking) and adjusting the space between pairs of letters

(Kerning). The term typography is also applied to the style, arrangement and

appearance of the letters, numbers and symbols created by the process. Type

design is a closely related a craft, sometimes considered part of typography most

typographers do not design typefaces and some types designers do not consider

themselves typographers, typography also may be used as an ornamental and

decorative device, unrelated to the communication at information.

Typography can also be defined as the design, or selecting of letter form to be

organized into words and sentences to be disposed in block of types as printing

upon a page.

Typography is also said to be the art of arranging letter and test in a way that

makes the copy legible, clear and visually appealing to the reader. Typography

involves font style, appearance and structure which aim to elicit certain emotion

and convey specific messages.

Typography can be dated back to the 11th century, during the invocation of

movable type. Before the digital age, typography was a specialized craft associated

with books and magazines, and eventually public works. The first example of
typography can be seen in the Gutenberg bible. Which kick – started a typography

revolution in the west. Fun fact style of type used in the Gutenberg bible is now

known as Textura, and you’ll find it in the font drop down menu on major desktop

application today.

Fast forwards to modern day, where typography is mostly associated with both the

Digital World and print. With the birth of the internet came a creative explosion of

the art of typography. Suddenly, web designers, had an abundance of fonts and

type options at their disposal, making typography more visually diverse than ever

before.

USES OF TOPOGRAPHY

1. Grab the viewer attention: - The attention span of people is fast decreasing

and it is now a few seconds only. Brands have to grab the attention of their

target customers in that friction of time; graphic designers therefore use the

power of typography to catch the eye of the people immediately.

2. Make text reader friendly: - Careful uses of typography ensure that visitors

can read the text on a web page easily. A wrong choice of fonts will make the

presentation complex and confusing for the viewers.


3. Hierarchy: - An experienced and skillful graphic designer makes good use of

different font sizes and font types to draw visitors attention to the most

important information first. The viewer can locate such information just by

having a quick look at it.

4. Build recognition: - Brands recognition is crucial for businesses to deal with

competition in graphic design the fonts are the visuals that large customers or

visitors keep in memory for a long time. Many logo’s are typography based.

They are all brands that people recognize quickly, so your typography designs

ideas should aim at building your brands recognition.

5. Create harmony: - Graphics designers use typography also to ascertain

harmony in a design or a web page. A harmonic design has an artistic effect in
