Chapter 3

This chapter outlines the research methodology used in the study. Specifically, it describes the correlational research design used to determine the relationship between parental involvement and student academic achievement. The study was conducted at Kapatagan National High School in Lanao Del Norte, Philippines and surveyed selected Grade 10 students. Data was collected using an adapted survey questionnaire containing questions about parental involvement. Responses were analyzed using statistical tests to identify patterns and relationships between parental involvement and student outcomes.

Chapter 3

Research Methodology

This chapter presents the methods and procedure in conducting of the study.

Specifically, it includes the description of the research design, research setting/locale research

participants/ population and sample, research instruments, data gathering procedure, ethical

consideration, data analysis and statistical treatment applied.

Research Design

The researchers used correlational research design. The researchers that aims to

determine the indicates extent of parental involvement that fluctuate in relation to the

students academic achievement

Research setting/locale

This study will be conducted in Kapatagan National High School. This is located at

Abragan St. Purok 6 Poblacion, Kapatagan Lanao Del Norte. The school covers 6.30 hectares

and Kapatagan National High School is the 3rd biggest School in the Division of Lanao Del

Norte.

Research Participants/ Respondents

The respondents of the study are the selected students of Kapatagan National High

School and they will be as participants of the study coming from the Grade 10 Selected

Section of Junior High School Enrolled in the School Year 2020 – 2023.
Research instrument

The data will be gathered with the use of adapted survey questionnaire. There will be

about 10 questions given to the participants. As a quantitative research study, the question is

design as all close-ended. The top of the page required the personal characteristics

information. Each item assessed on five point liker scale (1- Never to 5-Always).

Data gathering procedure

Due to the constraints of time and money, it is impossible to collect data from the

entire population of Grade 10 Students in KNHS. Therefore we decided to take only 3

selected section of Grade 10 to participate in our study. The researcher will send a permission

letter to class adviser to inform him/ her about the researcher’s intent to conduct a survey.

Moreover, inscribed in the letter would be the purpose of our study. After the approval,

consent letter will be given to all eligible participants in the sample population. A

questionnaire will be given to them during your break or free time, or during arrange time

permitted by the teacher/adviser.

Ethical considerations

Prior to the study, a letter request (written permission) is send to the campus school

principal and to teacher/adviser. To serve the validity or reliability of results the respondents

has been given the sample time to answer the questionnaires and the researchers answer

queries if in case some items are vague for the respondents.

If the respondents complete the questionnaire, there is a cover letter on the very top of

the questionnaire. This guaranteed that their identities and responses will be keep

confidential. Thus, we ensure that the entire participant’s involvement will not cause them

any difficulties.
Data analysis

For the quantitative data analysis, the researcher made use of the survey responses

from the participants as the main data sources. To determine the level of parental

involvement, two sample t- tests are calculated. Parents’ involvement is use as the

independent variable, whereas the students’ behavior and students’ attitudes is use as the

dependent variables for each test. A standard conventional level of pc. So is use for

evaluating statistical significance difference and significance relationship of all the

quantitative analysis that were performed in this

Study, the researcher then reviews the data to identify rewiring patterns, categories

and divide it into themes. Finally rewiring patterns, categories and themes were realized from

the responses were coded and categorized in relation to the research questions. Afterwards,

all transcriptions will be arranged in categories.

Statistical treatment applied

Z = Test formula

X = Mean of sample

M = Mean of population

O = Standard deviation of population

N = Number of observation
