CHAPTER 1 – PROJECT BACKGROUND

1.0 GOAL / OBJECTIVES

Seedball: Bebola Keajaiban is a program that was conducted by the committee as a

part of leadership and professional ethics for engineer’s student under Service-Learning
Malaysia University for Society (SULAM) that was set under the academic syllabus.
SULAM highlights on the community service and course of learning that involve students to
build a relationship between the community to help overcome problems of the community by
using the education and skills they have gained through their studies.
Seedball: Bebola Keajaiban is a program that involve talk which give more exposure
to the community on how to take care of the nature and the effective ways for rehabilitation
of nature through a more conventional ways for planting of tree which is seedball. Seedball is
a ball that was formed by using special formulation such as seeds, fertilizer, soil and enough
nutrient that help in the process of growth and germination of plant naturally. Hence, this
show how seedball would help the community by giving them more knowledge on how they
could conserve the nature.
The main goal on why this program is conducted is to educate the community on the
importance of conserving and preserving the nature by using seedball. The program also
highlighted on giving awareness to the community on nature and their role in conserving the
nature. This program also gives more inputs to the community by giving them exposure on
the ways to make seedball and its usage to replace the normal conventional ways of planting
tree. This program also focuses on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 4
which highlights on quality education to give information and knowledge about seedball and
its usage to ensure it could be applied on future usage.
2.0 TARGETED COMMUNITY / LOCATION

Seedball: Bebola Keajaiban was held at platform Google Meet and Dataran Cendekia
UiTM Shah Alam and this event target students of UiTM Shah Alam and public citizen. This
program targeted a total 40 participants dan 5 committee. The cumulative amount is 45
participants.

CHAPTER 2 – PLANNING

CHAPTER 3 – EXECUTION

1.0 THINKING SKILLS

Brainstorming idea is an initial part of holding any event or program. Here is where
the thinking skills are required and utilized. Brainstorming idea among the team members
results to 2 programs involving the participants that are interesting to be held which are talk
on the nature and seedball and hands on making seedball by the participant themselves. The
plan initially was to involve orphan children as part of the program, but due to place
restriction and lot of paperwork that needed to be done to involve them as part of participant,
the plan was cancelled, and we proceed to hold the event at Google Meet. However, as the
initial plan was to give the participants the opportunity to make seedball by themselves,
hands on for the making of seedball was suggested by the members which involve students of
UiTM Shah Alam. Hence why in the end, the targeted participants of the program are student
of UiTM Shah Alam and public citizen and why the program was held both virtually and face
to face.

The existence of seedball is not known by most people yet. Hence why the committee
of the program try their best to ensure that the public citizen could be involved in the
program. It is important to educate and give knowledge to people on those ways of making
seedball so they could replace the normal way of planting trees with seedball which would
make it easier for growth and germination of trees. Not just that, it is important to give more
exposure to the community on seedball as this could trigger them to conserve and preserve
the nature by using seedball as an alternative to trees planting as it is easier.

During the brainstorming session, the obstacles that can hinder the execution of the
event also being discussed. Table below shows the solutions for each challenge:

Obstacles/Challenges Solutions

The initial date of the program was to hold The date of the program was changed from
the program during breaks which might 5-6 June to 25-26 June.
make it hard to gain participant
Finding place to conduct the hands on for Using Dataran Cendekia UiTM Shah Alam
the making of seedball as it is public place and does not require any
paperwork for to book the place
Finding resources to make seedball Decide to go to nearby nursery to find all
resources needed for the making of seedball
Issues on how to conduct the program Inviting speaker from FRIM Kepong and
online Cik Nur Ezzahtun to help give talk on
preservation and conservation on nature and
give some information on seedball. Also
playing video on how to make seedball
through the program conducted online
Issues on budget needed to buy the Collecting money between committee first
resources for program to buy the resources needed for the program

2.0 COLLABORATION SKILLS

3.0 COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Communications skills are one of the important elements of soft skills that we have
obtained throughout the preparations for the program, during the program and after the program
being held. Communications are very essential as information are being delivered whether orally
(through speech), written (via printed or digital media such as letter, email, or social media),
graphically (via poster, logo, or videos) or nonverbally (using body languages or gestures).
Nevertheless, all these ways of communications must be delivered clearly in order to deliver the
information without any mistakes.

As for the preparation for this project, we used most of the communications skills
available such as oral communication during the brainstorming session among the group members.
We convey ideas and each of us justified for our own ideas to be chosen same goes when we
proposed our ideas to the lecturer for approval. Apart from that, we used writing as platform to
communicate with the HEP which is the proposal writing. Then, as our program need a professional
speaker, we write invitation letters to Cik Ezzah and FRIM. Luckily, they agreed to be our guest and a
short discussion was held with them through phone calls. We also promoted our program by using
graphically and written skills to attract the publics. A poster is created for the program, and we
uploaded it to various of social media platform such as WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.

Our program is a two-day program. At the first day we held a talk by using google meet.
During the talk, we communicate with our participants and the speaker verbally but only through
online. While on the second day, we meet with the participants of our program face to face. As the
program was being held at the Dataran Cendikia, we get to approach a lot of UiTM students and also
parents by applying the persuasive communication skills to persuade them to join us making
seedballs hands on. We taught them the steps of making seedballs by verbally and nonverbally
which is at first, we explained to them the steps then we demonstrated on how to make the
seedballs in front of the participants. We also had learned to communicate with children as children
aged 5 to 12 years old also participated in our program.

After the program, our group again held a discussion for the post-mortem. Then, we also
created a video of our journey during the program and posted it on YouTube. There, we could
interact with the publics by commenting on the video for the feedback of our program.
