The Three Fundamental
Principles for K I D s
by Shaykh Muhammad ibn Abdul-Wahhaab
In order to live as good Muslims and to die as a Muslim, we have to
understand what our purpose in life is and to live by this. Worshipping our
Creator, ALLAH, is the reason we were put on this Earth. We will leave this
world when Allah has willed, our soul will be taken and we will have to
answer for all we did.
Allah has tasked two angels, AL-MUNKAR and AL-NAKEER with asking 3
questions to all those who have died and are in the grave:
Question 2:
Question 1: "WHAT IS YOUR
"WHO IS YOUR LORD?" RELIGION?"
Question 3:
"WHO IS THIS MAN
AMONGST YOU?"
Angels with white faces will
descend from the heavens sitting
around the believer who did good
and made Allah very happy. The
believers will answer these
questions correctly and will dwell
in all that is good and pleasing
until they meet their Lord.
Angels with black faces will descend
from the heavens sitting around the
the evildoer who made Allah angry.
The evildoers who will be unable to
answer these questions correctly, will
dwell in pain and punishment until
they meet their Lord.

The
1 Fundamental Principle
Al-Munkar and Al-Nakeer will ask,
“Who is your Lord?”
Then say, my Lord is Allah, the one who nurtured me
and nurtured all of creation through His favours. And
He is the One whom I worship, there being to me no
(false) deity worshipped that is equal to Him.
"All praise be to Allah, Lord of the
alameen (i.e of all creation)"
[Surah Al-Fatiha: 1 ]
And if it said to you, how have you come to know about
your Lord?
Then say: By way of His
signs and His creations.
And among his signs
are the night and the
day, and the sun and
the moon. And among
His creations are the
seven (levels of) heaven
and the seven (levels
of) earth, as well as
whoever (and
whatever) lies in them
and between them.
O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and
those before you, that you may become righteous - [He]
who made for you the earth a bed [spread out] and the
sky a ceiling and sent down from the sky, rain and
brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. So do
not attribute to Allah equals while you know [that there
is nothing similar to Him].
[Surah Al-Baqarah: 21-22]
For ALLAH only
Whoever directs any acts of worship
to other than Allah, then he is a
polytheist, a disbeliever
And whoever invokes besides Allah another deity for
which he has no proof - then his account is only with
his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.
[Surah Al-Mu’minun, Ayah 117]
The 2 nd Fundamental Principle
Al-Munkar and Al-Nakeer will ask,
“What is your religion?”
What does it mean to be a
Muslim? Submitting to Allah’s
Oneness (tawheed), constantly
IHSAN
aiming to make Allah happy by
being obedient to Allah and to IMAAN
make sure we never commit
shirk.
ISLAM
Belief can be divided into three
categories:
ISLAM
1. Testimony of faith:
malsI fo sralliP 5 era erehT
Declaring that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that
Muhammad is His last Prophet and Messenger.
2. Establishing the prayer:
Praying our five daily prayers.
3. Giving Zakaat:
Giving 2.5% of our wealth as charity, yearly.
4. Fasting:
The month of Ramadhan.
5. Performing Hajj:
For those that are able, once in their lifetime.
IMAAN
The second level is al-Imaan (true faith) and it has seventy odd branches.
The highest of them is the saying of “Laa ilaaha illAllaah” and the lowest of
them is removal of that which is harmful from the path; and al-hayaa (a
sense of shame) is a branch of Imaan.

Righteousness is not that you turn your faces
toward the east or the west, but [true]
righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah,
the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the
prophets..
[Surah Al-Baqarah: 177]
IHSAN
Ihsan is that you worship Allah as though you see Him, for even though you
cannot see Him, He still sees you.
Indeed, Allah is with those who have taqwaa and those who have ihsaan.
[Surah An-Nahl: 128]
The 3 rd Fundamental Principle
Al-Munkar and Al-Nakeer will ask,
“Who is this man amongst you?”
Knowledge of your Prophet Muhammad
peace and blessings be upon him
He is Muhammad, the son of ‘Abdullaah, the son of ‘Abdul-Mutallib
bin Haashim. Haashim was from the (the tribe of) Quraysh and
Quraysh was from the Arabs. And the Arabs are from the offspring
of (Prophet) Ismail, son of (Prophet) Ibrahim.
He lived for sixty-three years, forty of which was prior to his
prophethood and twenty three of which he spent as a prophet and
messenger. He became a prophet due to (Allaah’s saying): اْق َرأ
"Read” [Surah ‘Alaq: 1] and a messenger due to: َيا َأُّيَه ا اْلُم َّد ِّث ُر “O you
wrapped in garments.” [Surah Al-Muddathir: 1]

Prior to Prophethood Prophet & Messenger Died
His homeland was Makkah, and he (later) migrated to
Madinah along with many Muslims. Allah sent him to
warn against Shirk (polytheism) and to call to Tawheed
(pure monotheism).
“O you wrapped in garments. Rise and warn! And magnify
your Lord (Allah). And purify your garments. And abandon
ar-rujz (idols). And do not give away something in order to
have more. And be patient for the sake of your Lord.”
[Surah Al-Muddathir: 1-7]
There was no good except that he
directed his ummah towards it, and
there was no evil except that he warned
them against it. The good that he
=TAWHEED
directed his ummah to was: Tawheed
=SHIRK
and everything that Allah loves and is
pleased with. The evil that he warned his
ummah about was: Shirk and everything
that Allah hates and rejects.
“This day I have completed your Religion for you, and
perfected my Favor upon you. And I am pleased with Islam
as a Religion for you.”
[Surah Al-Maa’idah: 3]
Allah sent him to all of mankind, and He made it an obligation upon
everyone from the two species of Jinn and mankind to obey him.

"Say: ‘O people! Verily, I am the Messenger of Allah sent to
all of you."

His is the creation and the command; blessed is Allah, Lord of the worlds."

The 3 Questions
in the grave
What are the three questions that
will be asked of us in the grave?
And of His signs are the night and day and the
sun and moon. Do not prostrate to the sun or to
the moon, but prostate to Allah, who created
them, if it should be Him that you worship.
[Surah Al-Fussilat: 37]
"O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and
those before you, that you may become righteous."
[Surah Al-Baqarah:21-22]
