Adjectives

Comparative Forms

Comparative forms are used to compare two people, things or


animals (nouns). There are 3 categories of adjectives:

GROUP 1
a. One-syllable adjectives tall taller than
thin thinner than
b. Two-syllables ending -y heavy heavier than
friendly friendlier than

GROUP 2
Two or more syllables beautiful more beautiful than
talkative more talkative than
GROUP 3
Irregular adjectives good better than
bad worse than
far farther/further than

Superlative Forms

They are used to compare three or more people, things or animals (nouns).
There are 3 categories of adjectives:

GROUP 1
a. One-syllable adjectives tall the tallest
thin the thinnest

b. Two-syllables ending
b. Two-syllables ending -y
-y Heavy the heaviest
friendly the friendliest

GROUP 2 beautiful
