Notes: This size guide is shown in inches and centimeters however these are just a point
of reference so don't solely rely on them. I can't stress the importance of measuring
yourself, as our bodies are all different.
Size guide is from: https://www.craftyarncouncil.com/standards/woman-size

Yarn Usage (Aran/Worsted/DK weight) usage for this top below from testers (usage will vary for all
sizes):
XS 190 yards S 246 yards M 339 yards L 470 yards
XL 500 yards 2X 630 yards 3X 668 yards
DK yardage: tested in sizes S 250 yards M 280 yards

Measurements:
MESASUREMENT A
Measure from one side to the other from the fullest part
of your bust (starting from your under arm) This is
measurement A. Measuring in this way will give you a
looser fit. If you want it to hug your body, measure around
the whole of your upper body from under your arm all the
way around to meet the start of the tape measure.

Example (these are my measurements size small be sure

to do your own): Your chain must be a multiple of 4.
Bust measurement - 32" + 2" = 34" (by adding 2 inches
this will make for a slightly looser fit and ensure the MESASUREMENT B
stitches don't look stretched)
34 Divided by 2 = 17"
17" = 64 chains

Notes: Divide measurement A by 2 to calculate the length

needed for the front and back panels of the top.

When you have finished and connected both panels to

make the top, try it on and measure over your shoulder to
calculate the strap measurement. This is measurement B. Strap measurements from the front
of the top to the back over your shoulder

PATTERN STARTS ON PAGE 9

Slip Stitch
STEP BY STEP
How to make a slip stitch (sl st)

The slip stitch is the shortest of all crochet stitches. You can work a slip stitch at
just about any point after you begin your project. Insert your hook into the
stitch or chain where you want to crochet the slip stitch. Yarn over and pull
though as pictured.

Then, pull the newly created loop through the loop on your hook. Once you try
these steps a few times, it becomes almost like a single motion. The slip stitch is
now complete.

PAGE 4
STEP BY STEP
Foundation Chain
How to make a chain

Create a slip knot to create your foundation chain. Wrap the yarn around 2
fingers and pull through the working yarn to create a loop on your hook; pull
closed so it's snug around the hook.

Yarn over pull through the loop on your hook, yarn over, repeat. This is called
your foundation chain and it's the base of most crochet projects.

PAGE 5
STEP BY STEP Single Crochet

How to single crochet (sc)

With your first loop already on the hook go through your chain or stitch, yarn
over pull through. You have 2 loops on your hook.

Yarn over and pull through both loops to complete your first single crochet. For
this pattern, you will be using this technique to attach your top.

PAGE 6
STEP BY STEPDouble Crochet

How to make a double crochet (dc)

Create a foundation chain to practice double crochet.Yarn over, insert hook into
chain indicated in the pattern. For this example, it will be the 5th chain from
your hook. (chain 3 counts as a double crochet)

Yarn over again, pull through, yarn over again, pull through the first two of
three loops on hook, yarn over again, pull through the remaining two loops on
hook.

You have completed your first double crochet.

It will look like this, (the chain 3 counts as a
double crochet).

PAGE 7
STEP BY STEP
Iris Stitch
How to make the Iris Stitch (2 double crochet, chain 1, 2 double crochet)
Create a foundation chain to practice. Yarn over, insert hook (for this example it
will be in the 5th chain from your hook (chain 3 counts as a double crochet but
not part of the Iris stitch).

Yarn over again, pull through, yarn over again, pull through the first two of
three loops on hook, yarn over again, pull through the remaining two loops on
hook.

Create a second double crochet into the same chain space. Chain 1 and create
two more double crochets into the same chain space. Skip 3 chains/stitches
and create the next cluster into the fourth chain (2 double crochet, chain 1, 2
double crochet). Turn your work and repeat these steps to create the Iris Stitch
pattern.

PAGE 8
MAKING THE Body

Step 1:
Let's begin, using measurement A, (refer to page 3
Size Guide for help) choose the colour you want
the body of your top to be and ch a multiple of 4
(for me [size small] I chained 64). Ch 3, turn your
work.

Step 2:
In the 5th ch from your hook, (place 2 dc, ch 1, 2
dc) all into the same ch st *Skip 3 sts, (place 2 dc,
ch 1, 2 dc) in the next ch.* Repeat from ** across Note: If you want your top to

the last st. Turn your work.

Step 4:
Repeat step 3 inside the ** until your piece is the
desired length for you. Ch1 and fasten off. For size
small I created 17 rows.

Step 5:
Repeat steps 1-3 for the same amount of rows to
create your second panel.

Note: You will be adding a border at the top and bottom, so allow for the extra coverage when deciding
on the length.

PAGE 9
ATTACHING Both Panels

Step 1:
Lay both panels one on top of the other.

Note: Sc into the 1st ch 3 space where you

attached your yarn twice and all the way along.

Step 2:
Attach your yarn to one of the top corners, going through both the front and back
panels of your top. (Note: weave the tail in as you go - this will save you having to at the
end). Ch 1, then sc into each ch space gap twice (making sure to go through both ch 3
spaces of the top and bottom panel; See photo for guidance). Ch 1 and fasten off.

Step 3:
Repeat step 2 on the other side of the top.

CHANGE COLOUR

Step 4:
Turn your top the right way out so the sc seam is on the inside. Using your second
colour attach your yarn into the ch space next to the seam of your top. See second
photo for guidance.

Ch 3, place 1 dc, ch 1, 2 dc. Skip to the next Iris cluster *place 2 dc, ch 1 2 dc* (into the
cluster ch space), repeat** all the way around the body 'til you reach the 1st cluster of
the round. Sl st into the top of the ch 3. Ch 1 and fasten off.

Step 5:
Repeat step 4 for the bottom of your top.

PAGE 11
Iris Stitch Strap
STEP BY STEP

Chain 3, 1 double crochet, chain 1, 2 double

crochet, turn, slip stitch into the chain 1 space

(Pattern continues on next page) Attach your yarn to the ch space between an
iris cluster, chain 3, 1 double crochet, chain 1, 2 double crochet in the same
chain space, turn your work sl st into the chain 1 space from the previous row.

Chain 3, place another double crochet into the same chain space. Chain 1 and
create 2 more double crochets into the same chain space.

Turn your work slip stitch into the chain 1 space. Repeat these steps *chain 3,
1 double crochet, chain 1, 2 double crochet in the same chain space, turn your
work slip stitch into the chain 1 space*. This pattern will create the Iris stitch
strap.

PAGE 12
ATTACHING THE Straps
Step 1:
Try on your top and using stitch markers, mark where you want your straps to be. Make
sure they are the same amount of sts/clusters from the seams (for size small I marked 4
clusters from the seam). It's up to you if you have the starting ch at the top or bottom.

Step 2:
Attach your yarn to the ch space where your stitch maker is placed. *Ch 3, 1 dc, ch 1, 2 dc
in the same ch space, turn your work sl st into the ch space.* Repeat from ** (for step by
step photos refer to page 8).

Step 3:
Continue this pattern 'til you reach your measurement B (shoulder strap length). Making
sure the strap isn't twisted, line it up with the cluster that your stitch marker is in. Fold the
bottom of this strap up, ready to connect to the back of the top. Remove your hook,
making sure to keep the yarn still looped, and twist your work around so the loop is at the
working end. Place your hook back into the loop. Go through the ch 3 of the strap, and
back through the loop at the ch 3 of the back. Create a sc. Sl st to attach to the back panel
of the top all the way along to the last st (4th st of the cluster). See photo for guidance.

Step 4:
Repeat steps 2-3 for the other strap.
