More than just being fluent in the language, a competent
English teacher needs to have a few key characteristics. This
essay will explain the characteristics of a good English
teacher.
First of all, a good English teacher must have excellent
communication skills. Communication skills, such as listening,
speaking, reading, and writing, must be clear and able to
express information simply and clearly to teach language
effectively. To help pupils understand the principles being
taught, educators should use appropriate body language and
voice tone. A teacher must be extremely knowledgeable in
each of these fields to impart knowledge to students.
Teachers are excellent communicators who always simplify
complex concepts (Silver, 2018).
Secondly, an excellent English instructor must be patient.
Both in the classroom and in interpersonal relationships
among students, patience is crucial. A teacher's patience can
have a significant impact on student accomplishment,
according to a report by Morris et al. (2020) on the function of
patience in an effective teaching and learning process. The
patient teacher will be able to patiently listen to the students'
queries and provide the required explanations using a variety
of approaches until the students fully get it. Patience also aids
teachers in dealing with challenging pupils and aids in the
realization of students' priorities.
Lastly, The third characteristic of a competent English
teacher is inventiveness. Creative teachers are motivated and
have a wealth of original ideas that keep their students
interested in the subject. According to research (Cimemanova,
2015), innovative teaching strategies are essential for
increasing students' motivation and learning effectiveness.
Hence, a creative instructor will stimulate pupils' curiosity and
interest, creating an internal incentive for learning in them.
In conclusion, communication, patience, and originality are
the three characteristics that make an excellent English
language instructor. These characteristics, which are crucial
for any teacher to have, in order to be successful in the
classroom, are supported by research in this field. The teacher
will be able to foster a supportive environment for their pupils
that will result in academic success with communication,
tolerance, and creativity.
