BS 53Oghasbeenpreparedunder the direction of the


ElectronicComponentsStandardsCommitteeto coverthe
requirementsfor a rangeof instrumentsignalcables.
This Part of BS 5308 is a revisionof BS 53OB: Part2: 1g78,
which is withdrawn, and updatesthe standardin line with
current technology.Attention is drawn to the increased
operating voltagegiven in the scope.
Thesecablesare not intendedfor usein coal mining
(Group l) applicationsbut may be suitablefor Group ll
intrinsioallysafesystems(but seewarning note).
This Part of BS 5308 coversPVC insulatedcables,
usedmainly by the chemicaland petrochemicalindustries.
Part 1 coverspolyethyleneinsulatedcables,usedmainly
by the petroleum industry.
