RC Coupled Amplifier

The document discusses the design and frequency response of RC coupled amplifiers. It examines RC coupled amplifiers with a gain of 100 both with and without bypass capacitors. It also looks at an RC coupled amplifier designed for maximum swing with a gain of 100 and another with a gain of 30.

RC COUPLED AMPLIFIER

AIM: Design and plot the frequency response of RC coupled amplifier with lower cut off
frequency 200Hz for
(i) A gain of 100
(ii) Without bypass capacitor
(iii) Maximum swing and a gain of 100
(iv) Gain of 30

Let β(hfe) =100, Vcc = 12V , Ic = 2mA ,fL= 200hz

VRE = 10% of Vcc = ×12 = 1.2V RE = VRE/IE(IE≅IC) , -3 = 600Ω ≅ 560Ω
100 2×10
-RC 26mV 26mV
Gain = =100 re = = = 13Ω[re = internal emitter resistance of transistor.
re IC 2mA

Rc =100×13 = 1300 ≅ 1.5k
Assume, IR1= 10 IB , IR2 = 9 IB
∴ VR2= VBE+VRE , = 0.7+1.2 = 1.9 V
hfe for BC 107 is 100.
IB = IC/hfe = 2mA/100 = 20µA
∴VR2 = 9 IB. R2 , R2 = 1.9/ 9× 20 µA = 10.6 K
Also, VR1 = VCC – VR2= 12-1.9=10.1 v
R1 = (VCC – VR2) / IR1 = 50 K
XCE =RE /10, 1/2π fLCE = RE /10 , CE = 10 / 2πfL*RE = 10µF
Then, XC1 ≤ Rin /10 Rin = R1//R2//(1+hfe.re) We get Rin = 1.1 K
Then, Xc1 ≤ 1 K/10 =110 Ω So, CC1≥ 1/ 2πfL× 110 = 8 µF
Similarly, XC2 ≤ Rout/10 where Rout = Rc
Then, XC2 = Rc/10 = 1.2 K/10 =120 Ω SO , CC2≥1/2πfL×120=6.6µf
∴choose c1 & c2=10µf

VOLTAGE(Vi) KHZ VOLTAGE(Vo) dB=20log10(vo/vi)

PROCEDURE:
 Connect the circuit as shown in circuit diagram
 Apply the input of 38mV peak-to-peak and 1 KHz frequency
using Function Generator
 The voltage gain can be calculated by using the expression, Av= (V0/Vi)
 For plotting the frequency response, the input voltage is kept
Constant at 38mV peak-to-peak and the frequency is varied
5
from 100Hz to 1MHz Using function generator
 Note down the value of output voltage for each frequency.
 All the readings are tabulated and voltage gain in dB is
calculated by Using The expression Av=20 log10 (V0/Vi)

 A graph is drawn by taking frequency on x-axis and gain in dB on y-

axis On Semi-log graph.
 The band width of the amplifier is calculated from the graph using the
expression,
 Bandwidth, BW = f2-f1 (Where f1 lower cut-off frequency of CE amplifier,
and Where f2 upper cut-off frequency of CE amplifier)
 The bandwidth product of the amplifier is calculated using the Expression
 Gain Bandwidth product = 3-dBmidband gain X Bandwidth
