Job Opening - Research Assistant
About the position
The Principal Investigators (PIs) Caterina Calsamiglia, Giacomo de Giorgi and Laia Navarro-Sola
are seeking highly motivated and qualified individuals for four positions of Research Assistants
to support the impact evaluation of an educational intervention in Spain targeting
socio-emotional skills. The Research Assistant position offers an opportunity to gain first-hand
field experience in the implementation of a randomized control trial.
The research project is a large-scale randomized control trial in secondary schools in Spain to
evaluate a teacher professional development intervention to foster socio-emotional skills using
in-classroom technology and formative assessment practices.
The four Research Assistants will be based in Spain, two in Barcelona and two in Sevilla. We are
looking for a full-time commitment period of 19-22 months, with starting date June 1st, 2022.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
● Managing day-to-day research activities and monitoring their quality.
● Visiting schools and supervising the fidelity of intervention implementation and integrity
of the research design.
● Programing survey questionnaires on the appropriate platform.
● Collecting data from schools and entering it following established protocols. Supervising
data collection and data entry processes when performed by external actors.
● Assisting in data cleaning and preliminary analysis.
● Supporting the preparation of documents and presentations for the PIs as well as
dissemination activities.
● Documenting all activities related to the project.
Qualifications
● Education: Bachelor’s degree. (Degrees in economics, public policy, human
development, education, evaluation, social education or social work preferred but not
required).
● Quantitative skills: Technical understanding of experimental evaluation methods.
Working knowledge of Stata, and experience with data management, data cleaning, and
regression analysis.
● Work experience: A minimum of 1-year of work experience is preferred but not
required. Experience participating in the implementation of randomized experiments is
desirable.
● Project management skills: Attention to detail; excellent organizational skills; experience
in teamwork strongly preferred; proven ability to be flexible, self-motivating, able to
work independently; proven ability to juggle several tasks at one time; ability to
successfully complete assigned tasks and meet deadlines; ability to deal with
unstructured and changing environments; ability to communicate deviations from
project plans and timelines and take appropriate action as required.
● Language: Excellent oral and written communication skills in Spanish is required; English
fluency is desirable but not required.
