GUIDELINES/MECHANICS
OF THE GAME

1. Batuhan ng Bola

is a group game where the tagging team (taya) aims to eliminate opponents by throwing a
ball at them. Target players (pain) are in the middle of the rectangular or square playing
area while tagging team is located at the end lines. The team that eliminates the opponent
the quickest or by tags more opponents within a given time wins.

Participants:
The competition is open to all Civil Engineering Students who are officially
registered to participate in the said event.
Registration ID of each participant must be presented before the start of the game.
Participants must be registered in the form that will be released prior to the
competition.

Teams
● 2 teams composed of 10 members each (5 girls, 5 boys), the Offensive (Taya Team) and
DefensiveTeam (Pain team)

Referee
● two (2) (one (1) on each side)

Materials
● 1 piece Throwing Ball
Mechanics:

● The members of the taya team will be divided into sets of throwers positioned at the end
of a marked playing area while members of the pain team will be in the middle of the
same playing area.
● On the given signal, the taya team will try to eliminate all members of the opposing
team within a given time (usually 5 minutes) or as quickly as they can. When a
member of pain team is hit, that player will be out and will move outside the playing
area. Eliminated players can play again when a teammate catches a fly ball (ball that
is thrown in the air). If only one player is left, the taya team should hit the player
within a given number of direct throws (usually 3-5 or more). If the taya team is
unable to do this, the rest of the pain team will be revived and play again. If the player
is hit, teams switch roles. When all players are hit, teams change roles. The new taya
team and new pain team will do the same.

● Each team will play for 5 minutes as taya and pain. If all players are eliminated within 5
minutes, time will be recorded. However, if 5 minutes lapsed with players still in the
game, the number of eliminated/tagged players will be recorded. The team with the
quicker time to eliminate opponents or more number of eliminated/tagged players wins.

Rules:
● Throwers cannot throw beyond the designated are or line.
● No head shot (shot aimed at the head) will be allowed at any moment of the game for
safety purposes. Hence, if a player is hit at the head, s/he will not be out.
● When the ball bounces on the ground and then hits a player, that player will be
considered out.
● When the ball hits a player then bounces off to a teammate, both players will be out.
However, if the ball touched the ground first before bouncing off to a teammate, only
the first player hit by the ball will be out.
● If a player attempts to catch the ball but drops it, s/he will be out.
● If within the given playing time there are players left, the number of eliminated players
will be counted. However, if teams were successful in eliminating players within the
playing time, quickest time will be the basis for declaring the winner.
2. Patintero

The object of the game is to cross the rectangle back and forth without getting tagged.
One tagger is usually assigned per crosswise line. Taggers can only move along their
respective lines, with the exception of the tagger on the first line who is regarded as the
team leader.

Participants:
The competition is open to all Civil Engineering Students who are officially
registered to participate in the said event.
Registration ID of each participant must be presented before the start of the game.
Participants must be registered in the form that will be released prior to the
competition.
Team Composition:
The team must be composed of 5-10 players, 5 game players and 5 backup
players allowing for a combination of male, female, and other gender.
In every game, the 5 game players must have a minimum of either 2 male or
female players.
A team with a lacking member is not allowed to rerun to compensate for the
lacking member.
Upon the start of the game, in the event that any team members arrive late, they
are prohibited from participating in the current game and can only join the
subsequent game with the other opponent teams.
Substitution of a backup player is only allowed after the next game with other
opponent teams.
Game Venue:
The game must be commenced on a lawn with a flat surface.
The game setup is composed of a 3x2 grid with each grid measuring a dimension
of 3.5m x 4.5m. Illustration of the game setup is shown below:

Officials of the Game:
Five Line Guards - judges the tagging and sees to it that the feet of guards are on
line while tagging. They must also see to it that the invaders are inside the playing
area while crossing.
Timekeeper - the responsible for signaling the two-minute game. He also calls
for the changing of teams if there is no score made by the “invaders.”
Scorer - the one in charge of accurately recording and keeping track of the score
throughout the game.

Tournament System: DOUBLE ELIMINATION

A tournament system allows teams or participants to continue competing after
losing a match, with elimination occurring after two losses.
Mechanics of the Game:
The game is played with two teams composed of 5 players.
Teams are given a grace period of 10 mins after the scheduled time of the game.
Fail to show after the given time will result to disqualification in that match.
The game starts with a toss of a coin to decide the team that becomes the guards
and invaders.
There is a time limit of two minutes for each team to score.
Once the two minutes elapses or one member of the team gets tagged by the
guards, the two teams change sides, and the guards become the passers and
vice-versa.
The invaders are supposed to cross the lines from the starting point and back, to
earn a point.
The line guards are positioned on the vertical lines with the one on the horizontal
line of the grid, making sure that their feet are always on the line while tagging.
The Patintero objectives of the line guards include tagging the invaders with their
powered or butterfly hands and blocking them from passing the lines. Tagging
means touching the invaders in any parts of their body including their clothing,
accessories, and hair.
The teams with the highest points after three innings wins the game.
In the case of tie, a tie breaker is done by running one innings for each team being
the invaders and guards.

1. The game will be a relay type of race.

2. Ten (10 people) will represent each team.
3. The game will begin once the facilitators have given the command to do
so.
4. The players will have to race back and forth by means of coconut shell
stilts.
5. The player should tap the hand of the next player in line to indicate his/her
completion of his/her part.
6. The current player will hand the coconut shell stilts for the next player to
use.
7. In case the coconut shell stilts break, a replacement will be provided
(depending on availability) and the current player has to restart hih/her leg
of the race.
8. In case the facilitators run out of coconut shell stilts, the team could still
finish the race, provided that they will be using the finisher’s (or the first
team to finish) coconut shell stilts to finish the remainder of the relay.
9. Questions will only be entertained before that start of the relay.
10. The facilitator’s decision is final.

is.
● Start with 5 people per team (or an even number); 5 people on each side of the field (or
applicable number if starting with less than 10 per team).
● Start the race on one end and have each person tag the next in the other line. Continue
until the team finishes.

Rules:

The first team to the finish line wins.

Note: The team sack race can be done with the “Three-Legged Race” rules, too.
