ACTIVITY NO. 1

THE GREAT HACK: A Documentary Film Analysis

The Great Hack is a documentary film (available on Netflix) that generally tackles about a data
scandal which allegedly happened in various incidents, including the 2016 election in the united
states of America.

Watch and analyze the documentary from the social point of view of an ordinary individual
living in this data-driven world and from the perspective of an analyst who understands the
power of data and what it can do to our lives.

Then, write a critique paper (at least five pages) that contains your analysis and objective
reactions about the documentary. This is not an ordinary film review, so you don’t have to
include a summary or synopsis discussing what the film is all about. Do not write things that
are already and obviously presented in the documentary (doing so would negatively affect your
score). Rather, your paper should clearly and comprehensively present your thoughts and
intelligent opinions about the topic. Discuss its general appeal or impact on you. You may cite
specific points where you agree as well as on the point where you found disagreement. You
may also mention your general knowledge, which you think is relevant to the topics presented
in the film.

In order to augment your analysis, your opinion, as well as your point of agreement and
disagreement - please make sure that all of your arguments are supported by facts; thus, you
are required to do additional research about the crucial topics presented in the film. Five to six
references or resources are expected to be found at the end of your paper.

Your paper must be typed, using a 12-point Calibri font, 1.5 paragraph spacing, long bond
paper, 1” margin on all sides, similar to the format of this document.

Your document will be checked using “plagiarism software”, it must be at least 95% unique to
be considered as your “own work”. Class policy for plagiarism will be applied to all unoriginal
work. To avoid problems, it is suggested that you check your own paper against unintentional
plagiarism before submitting it to your Professor. You may use the plagiarism checker at

CRITERIA SCORE
1. CONTENT: The paper contains a logical, analytical, and intelligent critique of the 50
documentary film. Opinions and reactions are based on facts and are presented in an
objective manner.
2. RESEARCH: The paper shows evidence that the writer conducted additional research 20
relevant to the topic.
3. STRUCTURE: The paper adheres to the formal standard of writing. (Correct sentence 10
structure, spelling, and grammar)
4. REFERENCES: Proper references (all resources are properly cited within the 10
paragraphs) and indicated in the bibliography part.
5. PUNCTUALITY: The paper is submitted on the agreed date. 10
