PRELIMINARY
MAIN SPECIFICATIONS DATA LIST
Carried out in November 2022 for request of “COTRANSMINES SAS”
New Caledonia

1 INTENT, STANDARD, and various details.

1.1 INTENT OF SPECIFICATION


It is the intent of this specification to describe the barge the Builder is to deliver to
the Owner. This being a steel unmanned “Barge” capable of load 300MT of nickel
Ore.
The Barge is to be complete in all respects, fully equipped and fitted out by the
Builder in accordance with the best marine practice and ready for service.

1.2 HULL DESIGN STANDARD


This Barge is to be designed and built in accordance with the Bureau VERITAS
(BV) rules.
- B.V. Rules for steel Vessels.
- National Tonnage regulation.
- REGULATION 224 Gross gauge mining barges less than 500
- DIVISION 222 French rules for the construction of vessel below 500 (latest
Edition).
- DIVISION 211 (Stability),
- All latest editions

1.3 TESTING
The stability dossier to be submitted to the competent authority is indicated in
REGULATION 224 : Article 2.07 Stability. Intact Stability report and inclining
experimentation to be performed as per BV and 222 rules

1.4 DELIVERY
The Barge will be delivered alongside the wharf : clean, fully tested with all
fittings, (spare parts), certificates etc, for the safe and proper functioning of the
Barge and in accordance with the contract and this specification.

1.5 CERTIFICATES
The Vessel will be delivered with at least the following documentation in triplicate:
Builder certificate
Bill of sale
Certificate of Compliance issued by an authorized classification society
Tonnage Certificate: as far as they concern approved by Class
French Load line certificate endorsed by Class.
Stability booklet and report of experimentation approved by Class
Asbestos free certificate
2 PRINCIPAL DIMENSIONS AND DESCRIPTIONS

2.1 PRINCIPAL DIMENSIONS (approximate)

- Length Overall: 28m


- Beam Moulded: 7,30m
- Depth Moulded: 2.55m
- Maximum draft: 2.40m
- Deadweight 300t
- GRT 96

2.2 GENERAL DESCRIPTION

- This Barge is to be built with draft and deadweight suitable of the loading sites
around New Caledonia.
- The Barge is of single chine hull form and the General Arrangement
Drawing forms an integral part of this description.
- The Barge is divided into six watertight compartments per requirement
i.e. Wing tanks (Port and Starboard), double bottom (port and starboard)
and Forward and Aft Compartments.

2.3 SOUNDING AND VENT PIPES

Each compartment will be fitted with:


- (2) x 4" BSP Sounding/suction Pipes with flange and blind at top
- (1) x ¾ "BSP Air line complete with international air connection and cap
plug at top.
Each are protected with steel box

2.4 Manholes

Manhole access for each Fwd and Aft compartment fitted with galvanised steel
Stud, nuts and washers.
Manhole access from each wing compartments (Fwd and aft - port and
starboard) - galvanised steel fastenings

3 HULL STRUCTURAL

3.1 MATERIAL

All structural steel is to comply with B.V rules, and is to be presented in a clean
and undamaged condition - certificates to be supplied.
Plate thickness throughout is to comply with or be superior to the class
requirement.
3.2 SCANTLING

All Steel plates are marine grade “A” or superior from reputable makers, stamped
and with certifications of origin and quality (PRC, INDONESIA & VIETNAM excluded)
Steel materials and welding rod are to be best marine quality.
For reference, following scantling :

Deck plating 8mm


Deck edge all round 50mm Solid round bar (S.R.B.)
Hopper Deck 16mm
Bottom Plating 10mm
Bottom edge all round 50mm Solid round bar (S.R.B.)
Side Bulkheads if any 8mm
Side Plating (P & S) 8mm
Forward & Aft Transom 10mm
Bulwarks Stays 8mm
Hopper Side Plating (P&S) 14mm Longitudinal
Hopper Fwd & Aft Bulkhead 16mm Transverse
Transverse Framing 8mm minimum
Longitudinal Framing Hopper Bottom 310 UB’s at 484/ 500mm spacing
Chaffing plate 50 x 20 (hopper dreck plate)
on the alignment of each longitudinal UB’s
Deck Inserts at Hopper Corners 16 mm plate
Chafing flat bar at each vertical hopper corner

3.3 WELDING

- The Barge is to be all welded construction, is to comply to be superior to the


Class requirement.
- The welding and building procedure is to be carefully executed in compliance
with B.V. Standard and best marine construction practice in order to avoid
distortion and internal stresses.
- And welding rods should come from US & EU

3.4 FENDER

- Longitudinal fender plates on each side level: (100mmx 20mm) under way of
higher rand lower longitudianle frames.
- Double fender plates at each transom (100mm x 20mm) higher and lower.
Rubber fenders from truck tires (textile reinforced only) and arranged around
each forward and aft end. Until tranversal bulkhead level.
4 DECK EQUIPMENT

The Barge is to be fitted with the equipment suitable for the marine environment. And
meet the requirement of the BV and the rules.

BOLLARDS

Suitable bollards should be positioned per particular using of this Barge (TBS)

5 ANODES

The Builder is to fit sacrificial zinc anodes to protect the Barge's structure from
electrolysis for at least 3 years protection. Owner indicates to prefer that anodes
should installed into pocket to avoid any chaffing damage.

6 PAINT SYSTEME (TBS)

Good quality epoxy paint system is to be applied with best maritime practices
according to paint system scheme issued by Paint Maker. Paint quality meets BV
and rules in force, in respect to fire protection, environment and Health.

7 FULL SET OF DRAWINGS AND DOCUMENTATIONS :

- General arrangement, detailed structures and shell expansion plates plans


approved by class
- Piping systems,
- Air filling, bilge, sounding approved by class
- Miscellaneous: Manholes details, fenders, Draft marks.
Equipment details and references of the rules are in the attached “Appendix”.
