ROUND 1 (CONTEMPORARY ARTS vs. MODERN ART)

MODERN ARTS (1860-1960)


- Modern arts came before contemporary art because we are living in a contemporary world
- Medium or creating an art (materials and equipments)
- Modern art uses Natural Pigments; Natural resources that you can see in our surroundings.
- Examples of Natural Pigments are Leaves, Blood of animals, mud, stone, etc.
- In the era of modern art there is a lack of resources or a lack of medium
- Doesn't use art materials such as water color, oil pastel, paint, crayons, color pencil, etc.
- It's called modern art because the popular art back then was cave painting or carving.

CONTEMPORARY ARTS (1970 - up to these present day)


- contemporary arts uses technology
- contemporary art is under modern arts
- It includes all forms of art; Visual arts, Choreography, Musical Instrument/Musical Composition,
Theater Performance, Cinema, Literacy.
- Electric fan is also an art. The correct term is:
UTILITARIAN ARTS - designed to be useful or practical. It is an art works that we use to make our lives
easier.

ROUND 2 (THEME AND CONCEPT)


- When we say theme and concept, this is the story that is usually portrayed by an art work
MODERN ARTS - most modern art concepts and themes are Religious concepts/National Identity
- NI - Meaning when you're a Filipino most likely your artworks are probably based on Filipinos. More on
Nationalism or heroes of the philippines. Most likely on religious concepts.
- Example of National Identity concept Is "The Making of Philippine Flag" made by the National artist for
visual arts Fernando Amorsolo
- Another example of Modern art is in the church. Golden glasses or stain glass that are glued together and
can form an image such as Jesus Christ or mama mary.

CONTEMPORARY ARTS - Most of the contemporary arts are themes are social Issues such as teen age pregnancy,
politics, poverty, same sex marriage, pollution, corruption, etc.

ROUND 3 (MEDIUM)

MODERN ARTS - In quizes when you see "ISMS" most likely these are drawings that is focused on the surroundings

INTEGRATED ARTS (IA) / COLLABORATIVE ARTS -


- it has two aspect
- two or more forms of art can be combined to create another form of art. The best example of this is
Theatrical performance.
- Another aspect is that two or more artists come together to create an art work.

DIFFERENT FORMS OF CONTEMPORARY ARTS

VISUAL DESIGN - focuses on the aesthetic of a site and its related materials by strategically implementing images,
colors, fonts, and other elements.

MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS/ MUSICAL COMPOSITION - A device created or adapted to make musical sounds. In
principle, any object that produces sound can be considered as musical.
- IMPROVISE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS - made or adapted from objects designed for other purposes.

CHOREOGRAPHY- the sequence of steps and movements


Two basic types of body movements
1. LOCOMOTOR - are movements of the body that occur from one place to another.
2. NON LOCOMOTOR - movements of the body that do not involve moving from one place to another.
- LOCOMOTOR and NON LOCOMOTOR is used to create choreography

LITERACY - More on reading and writing. More on letters, words, and paragraphs.
Example: Poetry, Dialogue, script, ect.
