minute at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina by Orville and Wilbur Wright

Air travel has changed the way people view time and distance due to its convenient
access to destinations.
CATEGORIES OF AIR TRANSPORT
Civil Air Sector – air services that caters passengers or airfreight such as
airport, airlines and other air navigation service providers.
Civil Aerospace – aircraft manufacturers and maintenance and the aviation
space ground equipment.

AIRLINES
Airline – the company that provides air transportation to
passengers, cargoes or a combination of both to
predetermined routes.

Flag carriers: Airline companies that have been


authorized by the government to fly to other countries
carrying the identity of their country of origin.

AIR SERVICES AND ROUTES
1) Scheduled service : business or for vacation travel
operating regularly as per fixed schedule, advertised
times regardless of number of passengers

2) Chartered service : tour operator/s chartered the


whole plane or flight for a round trip e.g. Singapore-
Tasmania- Singapore
TYPES OF FLIGHTS AND JOURNEYS
1) Non-Stop - from origin to destination with no intermediate
stops
2) Direct - flight from origin to destination with one or more
intermediate stops but still on the same aircraft
3) Connection - passengers must change planes at the stopover
city
HUBS AND SPOKES NETWORK
• Precise timing of arriving flights to offer a seamless onward transfer
to departing flights and to maximize the number of attainable
connections for incoming passengers and to keep at the same time
the connecting times within defined and acceptable limits.
AIR ALLIANCE
• An agreement entered into by
two or more airlines that will
bring mutual benefit to all parties
involved.
• Benefits may come in different
forms like: Guaranteed sales,
marketing exposure, pooling of
facilities, generated cooperation

AIRPORT CUSTOMS - An authority or agency responsible for the


collection of duties & for controlling the flow of people, animals &
goods in and out of the country.
