SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 6 SCIENCE
Date: October 10, 2018 (Wednesday) Quarter/Lesson #: 2 nd /4
CONTENT STANDARD: The learners demonstrate understanding of how the
major organs of the human body work together to form
organ systems.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learners should be able to make a chart showing
healthful habits that promote proper functioning of the
musculo-skeletal, integumentary, digestive, circulatory,
excretory, respiratory, and nervous systems
LEARNING COMPETENCY: The learner should be able to explain how the different
organs systems work together. (S6LT-IIC-D-2)
At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:
a) identify and describe the parts and functions of the digestive system
b) label the parts of the digestive system
c) promote healthful habits for the proper functioning of the digestive system.
II. Content
1. Subject Matter: Parts and Functions of the Digestive System
2. Science Concepts:
1. Digestive System consists of the parts of the body, working together that
help turn the food and liquids into the building blocks and fuel the body
needs.
2. Digestion is the process by which food is changed into simpler substances
that can be used by the body cells to produce energy.
3. Mouth-receives the food you eat. Inside the mouth are the tongue and teeth
where food is cut and broken down into smaller pieces by the teeth, saliva
and tongue.
4. Esophagus-where food travels through peristalsis going to the stomach.
5. Stomach-where food is digested through the aid of the gastric juice and
peristalsis until it becomes a thick, soupy mixtures.
6. Large intestine- where undigested foods stay temporarily and are eliminated
through the anus.
7. Small Intestines-where final digestion takes place through the digestive
juices from the liver and pancreas until it becomes a thin soluble substance
that passes through the villi.
3. Values Integration: Promoting good and healthful eating habits .

Science Processes: identifying, inferring, and communicating
IV. Procedures
Teachers’ Activity
1. Elicit:
Before we start with our lesson for today, let’s have first a
game.
A. Game: Riddle
Teacher will describe an object then you have to guess the CLUE: All answers
name of the riddles are food
- It looks green; when you open it is red inside and
with tiny black inside.
- It is long, green and with small green seeds
inside.
- This can be fried or can be cook with soup, it is
love by kids.
B. Review:
- What we call these groups of pictures?
- What do we do with the food we eat?
- What do we call the digestion of food?
- What are the 2 kinds of digestion?
2. Engage
Teacher will post a jumbled letter on the board.
A. Motivation: Rearrange the jumbled words match it to
its picture.
1. H T M U O= MOUTH
2. M S A H T O C= STOMACH
3. E P S G O U H A= ESOPHAGUS
4. L A M S L S E N I T S T E N I = SMALL INTESTINE
5. R G A L E T E T I N E S S E N I = LARGE
INTESTINE
3. Explore:
Teacher will divide the class into 5 groups.
1. Introduce Lesson: Activity 1 “Identifying parts and
functions of the “Digestive System”
2. The leader of the group will get an envelope from the
teacher.
3. On their group they will open the envelope and
discuss what is the function of the said picture?
4. The teacher will supervise the pupils while they are
doing the activity in 3mins.
4. Explain
Activity: Name and explain the different parts of the
digestive system.
1. Teacher will post a frame of digestive system using
the frame they will be ask to name the missing part of
the digestive system at the same the group who had
the picture will be the one to describe the function.
2. All parts will be discussed until the parts of the
digestive system will be complete.
3. The teacher will correct the misconception if needed The parts of the digestive
and add some information. system are mouth, esophagus,
5. Elaborate stomach, small and large
A. Generalization intestine.
- What are the parts of the digestive system? The first digestion takes place
in our mouth when we chew.
The last part of the digestion is
- Where does first digestion take place? the small intestine.
Yes, because the digestive
- Where does final digestion take place helps our body to digest and

inside our body and it helps us
1. Is it important to have a digestive system? Why? also to get the nutrients from
the food we eat.
We can take care of our
digestive system by eating
enough food and with nutrients.
2. How are you going to take care of the parts of
your digestive system?
