Hb 24x31cm 150pp col ills £75

In late summer of 2004, four young architects are kicked out of co-working space in Helsinki for
getting a bit too worked up about a museum competition in Kotka, Finland. Retiring to a nearby
bar to continue the conversation, they decide to set up a practice where loudness is encouraged.
Twenty years later, ALA still works by combining quiet grinding with big ideas, and dialogue with
digital craftsmanship. This monograph brings together the firm's main built works and the thinking
behind these projects. It features ALA's breakthrough building, the Kilden Performing Arts Centre
in Norway, plus Helsinki Central Library Oodi, the Helsinki Airport expansion and renovation, and

Anne Romme, Jacob Bang - O Island

Architectural Publisher B 2023 ISBN 9788792700469 Acqn 33856
Pb 19x32cm 162pp col ills £96

Architects, writers, and artists have always dreamed of islands, using them as inspirational
material for imagining new futures. Islands are also proposed as solutions to today's challenges,
as clean beginnings. The project by Anne Romme and Jacob Bang adds to this discourse and
suggests developing sustainable ways of inhabiting the spaces of oceans, seas, and harbours.
Combining digital fabrication with material craft, it is an artistic symbiosis between additive and
subtractive logics, between solid casts and perforated structures, in search of models for how
architecture and urban developments can grow organically, are in continuous flux, and allow for
plural voices.

Muoto - Holy Highway

Caryatide 2023 ISBN 9782493283184 Acqn 33799
Pb 22x30cm 200pp col ills £44

The highway as an obsession, capable of illuminating the unconscious of an architectural

practice. Such could be the succinct description of this book, that gathers unreleased or already
published texts by Studio Muoto on this intriguing theme. This eclectic collection of texts - extracts
from articles or lectures, notes, project descriptions - is complemented by an outright
photographic scrapbook produced by the architects who designed the French pavilion at the 18th
Venice Architecture Biennale, 2023. These images, taken during their travels and their many
projects, illustrate their obsessions as much as the wanderings of their thoughts. Holy Highway
reflects the principle of the exploratory journey as the foundation of an architectural sensibility.

Arquitectura Viva 255 – Collections

Avisa 2023 no ISBN Acqn 33846
Pb 24x30cm 80pp col ills £24.25

Two decades have been necessary to complete the great center called to collect the treasures of
the Spanish crown. The project was already considered during the Second Republic, but it did not
start to take shape until the change of century with a controversial call for ideas. Over these
years, the vast construction works and the organization of the royal collections have had to adapt
to the already slow ceremonial pace of the Administration, delayed on top of it all by a tough
recession, a pandemic, and multiple political ups and downs. A witness of this hectic process
from the beginning, Arquitectura Viva now celebrates the inauguration and wraps up the story.
The dossier in the issue presents five public buildings in Mexico.

Heinrich Tessenow
Hochparterre 2023 ISBN 9783909928828 Acqn 33845
Hb 29x30cm 500pp col ills £99
Text in German

Heinrich Tessenow (1876-1950) is considered one of the most important German architects of
the Weimar era. This monograph examines the significance his buildings, writings, and drawings
still have today. Through meticulous research in the remaining archives and in the field, author
Martin Boesch sketches a new image of Tessenow, mostly known for designing working-class
housing. Boesch shows that Tessenow mastered both large- and small-scale works, and was
capable of comprehensive urban planning. The book focuses in particular on Tessenow's iconic
buildings, such as the renovation of the Neue Wache in Berlin, the girls' school in Kassel, and
more.
