Speaking INDIVIDUAL task:


1. Select ONE topic ONLY from the 30 given in the list below (organized by areas);

2. Do some serious research - that also means using trustworthy sources! – to get as much
information/data as possible about the topic and don’t forget to refer those sources in your material;

3. Summarise the information collected and give your critical opinion on it;

4. Create a glossary (words, expressions, false-friends, collocations, phrasal verbs, etc.) and give example
sentences with (several of) the collected words/expressions.

5. Identify and refer to (more) elaborate language structures present in the material you’ve used in your
research, and their usage.

6. Send this file/presentation/link to the teacher so that it can be made available to all your classmates.

7. Prepare to make an attention-grabbing, engaging and well-organized presentation in 5-8 minutes


(max.).

All Students must do it for Speaking assessment as it accounts for 6% of your final mark!
The presentations will take place in the classroom in December 2023.

A - Education & General Culture Topic Ideas


1. Present/Discuss the different Education methods/systems (e.g. worldschooling, unschooling,
the Montessori Education, others)
2. Present/Discuss the importance of learning a second language (or more) and relate that with
the phenomenon of globalization.
3. Present/Discuss the importance and benefits of having reading habits and their impact on the
brain.
4. Present/Discuss which subjects or life skills useful for an independent person’s daily life
should be taught to children and teenagers before entering University.
5. Present/Discuss your favourite book (setting, plot, characters) and give your critical opinion
on it.
6. Present/Discuss Urban Art forms and focus on the question: Is Graffiti considered art?
7. Present/Discuss the relevance of learning about different religions.
8. Present/Discuss the effect of multiculturalism in cultural identity.
9. Present/Discuss the deeds and legacy of a (recent) historical personality (e.g. Nelson
Mandela).
10. Present/Discuss a number of objects to represent life and what major events affected us at
the beginning of the 21st century.
11. Present/Discuss how the book Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell, published in 1949, is
still relevant today.
12. Present/Discuss the origin of science fiction literature.
13. Present/Discuss a book that should be made into a movie and hasn’t yet.
14. Present/Discuss the impact of travelling in people’s lives, especially because it has become
easier and cheaper.
15. Present/Discuss what type of information - if any - a government should keep from its
citizens.
