7)A plane wall of thickness 0.2mt and thermal conductivity 20W/mK generates heat at the
50kw/m3 of volume when an electric current pass through it. The convective heat transfer on
each side of the wall is 10W/m2 k. Consider steady state condition and determine the surface
temperatures. Assume surrounding temperatures to be 250c.

8) A 50cm x 50cm copper slab 6.25mm thick has a uniform temperature of 300oc is suddenly
lowered to 36oc .Calculate time required for plate to reach the temperature 108 oc .Take 𝜌 =
9000 kg/m3,c = 0.38KJ/kg oc ,k = 370W/moc and h= 90W/m2 oC.

9)Rate of heat generation in the plane wall of thickness 10 cm is 1.5 X105 W/m3 .One side of the
wall is insulated while the other is exposed to a fluid of temperature 100 0 C where heat
transfer coefficient is 500 W/m2K.Thermal conductivity of wall is 15 W/mK. Determine
maximum temperature in the wall.
