Assignment
Cultural diversity is important because our country, our workplaces and schools are
increasingly made up of different cultural, racial, and ethnic groups. We can learn from each
other, but first we need to understand each other a little. Knowing other cultures helps us
understand different perspectives within the world in which we live. It helps to dispel negative
stereotypes and personal prejudices against different groups.
Furthermore, cultural diversity helps us recognize and respect “beings of being” that are not
necessarily ours. So that we can build bridges for trust, respect and understanding between cultures in our
interaction with others. Furthermore, this diversity makes our country more livable. Because people from
different cultures bring language skills, new ways of thinking, new knowledge and different experiences.
Cultural awareness is the understanding that our own culture differs from one person and group to
another, and especially from our target language. Cultural awareness enables us to communicate more
effectively with people beyond words and grammar by understanding their culture. Learning a foreign
language gives us access to another society and culture. That is good, because language is the most
important means of communication between people.
Cultural awareness makes communicating with different people easier and less stressful. Culture
and awareness also increase our cultural competence of people around us and around the world, it helps
us develop a deeper understanding of other people’s culture, as well as our own, to increase our tolerance
and broaden our minds.Effective communication in a multicultural environment means structuring your
dialogue in such a way that it is understandable to everyone involved. When we speak, we make
assumptions about what words and ideas mean. These are based on your personal and shared beliefs and
experiences. If you are talking to someone who has different beliefs and experiences than you, these
words may not mean the same thing. If you cannot compensate for this scenario, your communication has
failed.
Here is an example of not being aware of and not understanding cultural diversity. If you talk to
your close friends, co-workers, siblings, parents, and grandparents in a very different way. For friends,
you can tell memes that everyone has seen, but probably not with grandparents. They wouldn’t
understand the reference or the language. Effective communication in a multicultural environment is
therefore not a matter of “tossing”, but of every day and simply requires empathy, imagination and
consideration. Inclusion we need to be aware and be careful to engaging communication with other people
because you might say something that can offend them or they can’t understand you and can’t relate to
you.
