SPEAKING PRACTICE 1
PART 1: QUESTIONS – ANSWERS
1. What do you like the most about the city where you are living?
2. What do you do to protect the environment?
3. Do you plant any trees or raise any animals?
PART 2: SMALL TALK
Describe a wild animal that you like the most. You should say:
1. What is that animal?
2. Where does it live?
3. What’s it like?
And explain the reasons why you like it.
PART 3: DISCUSSION
1. Is it better to live with or without animals?
2. How important is the wildlife to our lives?
3. What can animals do better than humans?
PART 1: QUESTIONS – ANSWERS
The thing I like the most about the city where I am living is the fact that it’s well-known
for being a perfect mixture of traditional and modern characteristics: if you want to
explore and enjoy the long-established values, then The Old Quarter has everything
you’re looking for. What makes Hanoi so modern nowadays is due to it being the capital
city, thus people from all over the North come here to work, making it a diverse
environment with different kinds of backgrounds. However, since it’s so crowded,
pollution has become one huge issue. In order to protect this beautiful city specifically
and the environment generally, I suggest we plant more trees, use public transport more
often to minimize the carbon emissions and raise our awareness regarding the importance
of maintaining a clean domain, as we all love to breathe in fresh air. I’m raising a pet
myself, so I know my precious animal would love to live in a sanitary area.
PART 2: SMALL TALK
There are so many types of wild animals existing alongside with us human-beings, but
my favourite has got to be the red pandas. They are also known as ‘firefoxes’, and they
are found in high-altitude forests of southern China, India, Bhutan, Nepal and Myanmar.
They have been living on Earth for over 2 million years! Red pandas are actually as big
as a smaller dog breed, weighing only between 3.6 to 7.7kg. Their head and body length
averages 56 to 63cm, and their tails about 37 to 47cm. They eat mostly bamboo but also
enjoy eating eggs, insects, and small mammals like mice and hares. I’m particularly fond
of them due to their adorable appearance, as well as the eye-catching reddish brown
colour of their fur. I strongly believe that they must be protected at all costs because they
are actually considered an endangered species. Their cuteness brightens up my day so the
world would be so empty without their existence.
PART 3: DISCUSSION
1. In my opinion, it is better to live for us to live with animals. The most obvious
evidence here is the fact that so many people around the world have their own pet,
whether it’s a dog or cat, bird, turtle or even snake. I truly believe animals and
humans can coexist cooperatively and peacefully, as long as both sides respect one
another’s boundaries.
2. The wildlife has a significant impact to our lives. Not only do they make our world
more diverse and interesting, but they also provide plenty of resources which we
can utilize on a daily basis.
3. Animals are better at coping with the extreme conditions of the natural world
better than humans. While us humanbeings have to invent necessary clothing and
accessories to help us live through the seasons, many kinds of animals rely only on
their natural characteristics to help them survive day by day.
SPEAKING PRACTICE 2
PART 1: QUESTIONS – ANSWERS
1. Do you prefer to live in a rural or urban area? Why?
2. Where would you want to visit in the future?
3. Do you like to discover nature or relax at a resort when traveling?
PART 2: SMALL TALK
Describe the most beautiful place that you have been to. You should say:
1. Where is that place?
2. How does it look?
3. What are the sceneries there?
And talk about the feelings it gave you.
PART 3: DISCUSSION
1. What can the government do to preserve nature?
2. Why should people protect the environment?
3. How can we make the city a better place to live?
PART 1: QUESTIONS – ANSWERS
Có 2 cách trả lời:
If I have to be completely honest, I prefer to live in an urban area. I’m already an
extrovert, therefore I love to be in a crowded place where everyone is moving at
the same time, working against the clock to earn enough money for their lives. I
also like the view of magnificent skyscrapers, something you can never find in any
rural areas. I would like to visit big cities around the world in the future, such as
Beijing, Cairo, New York, London, Paris and relax at a resort when travelling
because I dote on the spectacular buildings.
To be 100% real, I prefer to live in a rural area. I really enjoy this unique sense of
peace that the mountainous landscape or seaside brings, which an urban area will
never have, considering how busy everyday life is over there and how everyone in
the city is moving at such a fast pace in order to survive in a competitive
environment. Furthermore, rural areas are much less poluted compared to any
urban areas, and for that I wholeheartedly would rather live in a normal house in
the countryside than a penthouse in the city any day. I would love to visit places
like the Grand Cayon in USA or The Twelve Apostles in Australia in the future, as
I love to discover nature when travelling and I’ve heard that these places have
splendid sceneries.
PART 2: SMALL TALK
The most beautiful place I’ve been to is Ha Long Bay. It is a UNESCO World
Heritage Site and popular travel destination in Quang Ninh Province. It is such a
perfect blend of mountainous and seaside landscapes all in one. Furthermore, there are
plenty of beaches all around that you can go on a beautiful sunny day to enjoy
yourself and breathe the fresh air. Not to mention the fact that there are several cafés
with magnificent view, which actually allow you to see the entire view of Bai Chay
bridge and and the beauty of nature that Ha Long has to offer. I also really like the
citizens there, as they’re overall really nice and friendly. Ha Long Bay definitely
makes me proud to be Vietnamese and I’d love to go there again.
PART 3: DISCUSSION
1. There are several ways the government can do to preserve nature. For example,
they can spend a portion of their funding on animal sanctuaries, nature reserves.
Another example is that they can raise awareness of their own citizens regarding
the importance of protecting nature, such as creating educational campaigns.
2. The fact that this question exists is rather ridiculous. Us humanbeings can live
every single day is mostly based on the environment. If we don’t protect it, our
lives will worsen real quick, as many diseases are results of severe pollution.
Therefore, each and every one of us has the responsibility to keep this earth as
clean as possible, or else we’ll be living in the crises that we create ourselves.
3. We can make the city a better place to live in many ways: putting rubish in the bin
and not just straight up throwing it on the road, using public transport more often
in order to reduce carbon emissions, or just simply being kind to one another when
we head outside the street. A nice gesture can make someone’s day.
SPEAKING UNIT 10
SPEAKING PRACTICE 1
PART 1: QUESTIONS – ANSWERS
1. Where do you usually come to socialize in your free time?
2. What’s the weather like in the place where you live?
3. What’s the traffic like in the place where you live?
PART 2: SMALL TALK
Describe the dream city that you would want to live in. You should say:
1. How would it look?
2. What services would it have?
3. How safe would it be there?
And explain the reasons why you would want to live there.
PART 3: DISCUSSION
1. How does crime rate affect the life of people in a city?
2. Should smoking be turned into a crime?
3. What can people do in order not to be a victim of credit card fraud?
PART 1: QUESTIONS – ANSWERS
1. I usually socialize in my free time on the internet. It’s already Industry 4.0, so
having social networking sites make it so much easier and more convenient to
make friends online. I want to practice my English as often as I can, hence I
usually talk to others who are already native speakers from various English-
speaking countries such as USA, Canada, Australia and England.
2. In the place where I live, the weather could get pretty severe in summer and
winter. During summer, the temperature can rise all the way up to nearly 40
degrees Celcius, making it boiling hot and uncomfortable. Winter isn’t any better
when it sometimes gets under 10 degrees and you still have to move on with your
busy day. Even a hot cup of tea or coffee won’t help much in such freezing
condition. In spring and autumn, the weather tends to be stable throughout these
seasons so there’s nothing much to complain about.
3. In the place where I live, traffic is a nightmare during the rush hours. Everybody
just wants to get to their destination as quickly as possible, leading to incidents
due to wreckless driving. Not to mention when you’re riding a scooter and you
have to stop at a red traffic light, you can smell all the uncomfortable gas coming
out of others’ motorcycles.
PART 2: SMALL TALK
The dream city I would want to live in would have a huge shopping centre and every
service you could think of would be included in there. From affordable to high-end
brands, movie theatres, massage service, entertainment area and variety types of food
restaurants. I’m keen on learning about other cultures through their cuisines so I would
love to see an entire level of just food from every country of the world. My dream city
would also have a lot of skyscrapers since I love to somewhere that makes me feel
futuristic. Last but not least, the city would have security all over the place, guarding 24/7
to ensure the citizens’ safety. The key to a happy life is health, and welfare plays a crucial
role.
PART 3: DISCUSSION
1. Crime rate affects the life of people in a city by making them feel more vulnerable
and unsafe. The higher it is, the more perilous it becomes, which becomes even
more of a threat to the citizens. This is why it’s crucially important that security is
guarding around the city 24/7 in order to maintain peace.
2. It depends on each individual’s point of view. In my opinion, I believe smoking
shouldn’t be turned into a crime. Some people might say it is bad for not only the
smokers themselves, but also other people around them who have to inhale the
irritiating smell from the cigarette, but they only think from one side. Many people
rely on smoking as a way to de-stress after a long exhausting day and it actually
makes me feel better. I don’t mind as long as they’re aware of the people around
them and smoke where and when appropriate.
3. To not become a victim of credit card fraud, people should always be suspicious of
any individual or organization that asks them for their banking details. Moreover,
it’s essential to keep all the information about finance to yourself and not reveal it
to anyone else, even your family or friends.
SPEAKING PRACTICE 2
PART 1: QUESTIONS – ANSWERS
1. Have you ever seen a crime?
2. What would you do when you see someone commit a crime?
3. Have you ever broken the laws?
PART 2: SMALL TALK
Describe a time when you saw a crime or you were the victim of a crime. You should
say:
1. When did that happen?
2. Where did that crime take place?
3. What did the criminal(s) do?
And talk about your feelings at that time.
PART 3: DISCUSSION
1. Why should we have different punishments for different crimes?
2. Should teenagers receive the same sentences as adults when they commit the same
crimes?
3. How can we prevent young people from breaking the laws?
PART 1: QUESTIONS – ANSWERS
1. Yes, I have, and it wasn’t a good memory. I was inside my house watching TV
and the neighbour’s house opposite to mine was broken into and robbed by a gang
of thieves. They weren’t at home at the time and I was little and too scared so I
didn’t know what to do. Later on, when they returned, they were terrified of what
had happened and informed the police.
2. If I saw someone commit a crime, I would immediately call the police and tell
them everything so they could come to the scene as soon as possible and solve the
issue.
3. No, I haven’t, and I don’t intend to do so. I want to live a peaceful, happy life so
breaking the laws would go against my desire.
PART 2: SMALL TALK
When I was in Saigon, as I was stepping outside a taxi to go inside a shopping centre, a
motorcycle came out of nowhere and snatched my handbag. It occurred so quickly that I
was too stunned to speak. Fortunately I didn’t leave my phone and wallet inside it,
everything that was in there wasn’t that valuable anyway. However, I’m still traumatized
by that horrible experience to this day. I can still remember vividly being so horrified as I
called the police to report what just happened. My voice was shaking and I was about to
cry but I still managed to finish the phone call without shedding a tear. It was that day
when I realized Saigon wasn’t as safe as I thought.
PART 3: DISCUSSION
1. We should have different punishments for different crimes because not all crimes
have the same level of severity. For example, it is unreasonable and unrealistic to
compare theft to murder. Even manslaughter is not as bad as murder, even though
both cost someone’s life.
2. The answer depends on each individual’s point of view. In my opinion, teenagers
shouldn’t receive the same sentences as adults when they commit the same crimes,
unless they do it intentionally. I think teenagers aren’t old enough to think
thoroughly about their own actions and behaviour at times, while adults are fully
able to do so.
3. Education is the key to prevent young people from breaking the laws.
SPEAKING UNIT 11
SPEAKING PRACTICE 1
PART 1: QUESTIONS – ANSWERS
1. How often do you use social networking sites?
2. What do you use your laptop/computer for?
3. In which cases would you make a call?
PART 2: SMALL TALK
Describe a digital device that you cannot live without. You should say:
1. What is that device?
2. How much did it cost?
3. What are its functions?
And talk about how it has helped you in your daily life.
PART 3: DISCUSSION
1. Have social networking sites brought about positive or negative changes?
2. How can people use social media more effectively?
3. What are the dangers that people may face when they are addicted to social media?
PART 1: QUESTIONS – ANSWERS
1. I use social networking sites every single day. That’s how I socialize and
communicate with friends, extended family members. In the age of Industry 4.0,
social networking sites are so common that they have become a part of our daily
life.
2. I use my laptop/computer for various purposes: studying, playing games, listening
to music, watching TV shows/series, online shopping. It is such a brilliant
invention that I can use it all day long without getting bored. There are so many
things I can do with this piece of modern technology.
3. I would make a call when I know talking would be more convenient than texting,
especially when sometimes texting could potentially create unecessary
misunderstandings, as intonation cannot be shown through messages.
PART 2: SMALL TALK
A digital device that I cannot live without is obviously my phone. I carry it with me
every single day, wherever I go. It just feels empty and wrong to not have it with me. One
of the reasons why I cherish it so much is because it was a birthday present given by my
parents, so it meant so much to me. I’m not sure how much it is, but one thing I’m certain
about is that it isn’t cheap as it has so many functions. I can do pretty much whatever I
want with this advanced piece of metal: texting, calling, playing games, shopping online.
I’m not very good when it comes to directions, so in daily life I always use the map on
my phone to guide me to my desired destination. Overall, I really love this phone and
how useful it is.
PART 3: DISCUSSION
1. To be honest, I do think social networking sites have brought about both positive
and negative changes. We already know how convenient these sites have made our
communication become, but everything has two sides. Some downsides are
cyberbullying, irregular sleep patterns due to being heavily addicted, false or
misleading information about someone can be fabricated on these sites.
2+3. People can use social media more effectively by knowing the limit. What I mean by
this is that they should balance online and real life equally and efficiently, and not mix
the two up and get lost in their own false reality. Some people are so addicted to social
media that they don’t even know what’s real anymore and I think that’s definitely a huge
problem.
SPEAKING PRACTICE 2
PART 1: QUESTIONS – ANSWERS
1. What is the most exciting thing that you have ever done online?
2. How do you feel when you don’t have your mobile phone around?
3. What social networks do you use the most?
PART 2: SMALL TALK
Describe a time when technological devices helped you in a difficult situation. You
should say:
1. What difficulties did you have at that time?
2. What technological devices helped you at that time?
3. How was the situation solved?
And talk about your feelings at that time.
PART 3: DISCUSSION
1. What would happen if social media disappeared?
2. How has social media changed the way we read the news?
3. Is technology good or bad for children?
PART 1: QUESTIONS – ANSWERS
1. The most exciting thing that I’ve ever done online is organizing an online project
for people during COVID-19, in order to temporarily distract them from the
epidemic because I just wanted to break the ice when everyone was stressed out.
2. When I don’t have my mobile phone around, I feel empty and that something’s
wrong. I’m used to having my phone with me 24/7 so technically it has become a
crucial part of my life.
3. I don’t think there’s any social networks that I use the most, as I use Facebook,
Messenger, Instagram, Twitter and Zalo together interchangeably and equally.
These are the apps that a lot of people also use and they’re so common that even
an elderly might have heard of these names.
PART 2: SMALL TALK
When I was trying to log into my personal account on my phone for an application to
cancel my monthly payment, I couldn’t remember the password. Fortunately, my laptop
had already saved the password beforehand when I created the account on it, so all I
needed to do was activating the laptop to find out the password, and then typed it on my
phone so I could cancel the payment. I felt so relieved and thankful because if it wasn’t
for it, I wouldn’t have figured out the password and my phone would continue to deduct
money from my bank account automatically.
PART 3: DISCUSSION
1. If social media disappeared, Industry 4.0 would also disappear. People would go
back to how they were before the internet was invented, and everything wouldn’t
be so advanced. This shows how much modern technology has drastically changed
the way humanbeings live our daily lives, work and communicate.
2. Before the existence of social media, people used to read the news on physical
newspaper or magazines. Nowadays, with just a click of a mouse, you can read the
news on digital platforms.
3. Technology can be both good and bad for children. It all depends on how they are
exposed to it, and how well their parents teach them about the use of modern
technology. As long as adults educate children about using it wisely, then the good
should overshadow the bad.
SPEAKING UNIT 12
SPEAKING PRACTICE 1
PART 1: QUESTIONS – ANSWERS
1. What is your favorite type of film?
2. How often do you watch movies?
3. Where do you usually watch a movie?
PART 2: SMALL TALK
Describe a movie’s character that you are most impressed about. You should say:
1. Who is that character?
2. What are his/her characteristics?
3. What did he/she do in the movie?
And explain the reasons why you like him/her.
PART 3: DISCUSSION
1. Is it good to be famous?
2. How can movies affect children?
3. What type(s) of movies should be banned from the school?
PART 1: QUESTIONS – ANSWERS
1. My favourite genre of film is thriller as it usually has a suspenseful plot. I enjoy
mysterious and suspicious characters, as well as being on the edge of my seat.
Thriller can satisfy all of these, thus it is my go-to type.
2. I watch movies mostly at the weekend. That’s when I have plenty of free time to
do whatever I want, and movies are my temporary escape of reality.
3. I usually watch a movie at the cinema. I enjoy watching in front of a huge screen,
as it makes me feel as if I’m part of the story and the volume is just next level in
the theatre.
PART 2: SMALL TALK
A movie’s character that I’m most impressed about is Mulan. She is different from all
other main female characters from Disney. While they’re displayed as kind, gentle, weak
princesses, she’s portrayed as a strong, independent woman who is willing to make
sacrifices for her father. She disguises as a male warrior and joins the imperial army in
order to prevent her sick father from being forced to enlist as he has no male heir. This
makes her stand out from any other princesses Disney has produced. Last but not least,
she is a great representation of Asian values. The majority of Disney main characters
aren’t Asian, but Mulan proves that loyalty, resilience and patience all lie within Asian
people.
PART 3: DISCUSSION
1. Being famous can be a double-edged knife. If you know how to utilize your
platform wisely, you can spread many good messages, gaining so many more
suppporters for youself. Reversely, if you use your fame for scandalous purposes,
then don’t be surprised when you have a lot of haters.
2. Movies can affect children’s pattern of thinking. If a particular has a lot of bad
words in it, children could potentially learn those words without really
understanding the meaning and bad effect of saying such things.
3. Violent and sexual movies should be banned from the school. School is supposed
to be a healthy learning environment, thus these genres are inappropriate.
SPEAKING PRACTICE 2
PART 1: QUESTIONS – ANSWERS
1. What would you do if you became famous?
2. Who did you want to become when you were a child?
3. Have you achieved any of your dreams?
PART 2: SMALL TALK
Describe a famous person that you would want to become. You should say:
1. Who is that person?
2. What has he/she done to become famous?
3. What achievements has he/she gained in his/her career/life?
And explain why you would want to become that type of person.
PART 3: DISCUSSION
1. Why do many people want to be famous?
2. What disadvantages may fame bring about?
3. In which ways can normal people become famous nowadays?
PART 1: QUESTIONS – ANSWERS
1. If I became famous, I would build a big penthouse for my parents. I would buy all
the expensive brands’ stuff and get myself a huge mansion. I would also use my
platform to spread positive messages so that other people might love themselves
even more and appreciate the beauty of life.
2. When I was a child, I wanted to become a perfect mixture of my father and
mother. They are both equally great at different aspects and I really wanted to
inherit all their best traits.
3. Yes, I have. Dreams don’t need to be so big, they can just be simple things in life.
Therefore I’ll continue to dream and they shall come true one day.
PART 2: SMALL TALK
A famous person that I would want to become is RuPaul. In order to reach today’s peak
of success, he has been through so many things. It certainly wasn’t easy for a drag queen
to stand on the stage back in the 1990s, but he managed to overcome all the
discrimination, racism and homophobia and pave the way for others in the LGBTQIA+
community. His show, RuPaul’s Drag Race, starting in 2009 has been one of his proudest
achievements throughout his career, which also has helped him win multiple Emmy
awards. RuPaul is considered one of the blueprints of the community and I admire his
confidence, fabulosity and positivity so much. I aspire to be like him one day and
continue his legacy.
PART 3: DISCUSSION
1. Many people want to be famous because fame certainly earns you a lot of money.
These days, your life can be a hot mess without money, and being famous even
helps you earn more money than multiple jobs combined together.
2. Fame may bring about more disadvantages than one might think. Many celebrities
have admitted that fame makes them feel trapped, burnt out and constantly stalked.
They can’t even live their lives peacefully for a day without being noticed by the
public, or being followed by paparazzi. When the camera is rolling, they feel like
they have to put on an act, instead of being their authetic selves.
3. Normal people can easily become famous nowadays just by making viral contents
on the internet. So many have become famous TikTokers even though they might
not have any real talents.
