Gnode B - Conformance Testing

1. This document discusses the specifications and testing requirements for 5G NR Node B transmitter conformance testing according to 3GPP standards TS 38.104, TS 38.101-1, and TS 38.101.2. 2. Key tests include adjacent channel leakage power, occupied bandwidth, spectrum emission mask, modulation quality metrics like error vector magnitude, timing alignment error, and frequency error. 3. Test models define the configuration for different tests, including channel parameters, power settings, and modulation. Power dynamics and transmitter on/off power are also specified tests.

5G NR Node B Transmitter Conformance Testing

1.1 Specification:

 Minimum RF requirement as Per 3GPP Doc: TS 38.104 (Base Station)/ TS 38.101-1(FR1) /TS
38.101.2 (FR2) at User Equipment.
 Conformance Test: TS 38.141 -1 FR1 & TS 38.141-2 Radiating Test (FR1/FR2) both for base
Station.

1.2 For TS 38.141 -1 Testing Requirements:

1. RF Output signal form g NB is first attenuated then connect to Spectrum Analyser. (Reason:
The Maximum Output power is more than 40 dBm so to protect the instrument Attenuator
required.
2. 10 MHZ reference & Frame trigger from g NB need to connect with the Instrument.
3. Interfering Signal required for Intermodulation Test (Interfering signal got generated through
signal generator and then input to transmitter through Circulator.
4. Spectrum Analyser: Capacity to do measurements of following below:
Adjacent Channels 1. Channel Power
2. Occupied Bandwidth these two are
the Basic Measurement signal for Power /Bandwidth.
3. ACLR
Operating Band 4. OBUE
Out of band Emissions 5. Spurious Emission These 3 items for Unwanted Emission
Test but target for diff. Freq. Offset.
6. TX ON/OFF Power (Specially for TDD Signal)
7. Mod Analysis: EVM (Frequency Offset & Timing alignment
error)
8. Mod Analysis: TAE (Timing Alignment Error)
9. Mod Analysis: Frequency Error. These
three belongs to Modulation analysis that can get the g NB
demodulated with the corresponding test model and then
report various measurement result.

 Test Models: it is the set of signal configuration as per 3GPP Standard for g NB Transmitter
Test.
 1.3 Test Model ----Test Items: Configuration likes Cyclic Prefix /Maximum RB Number /Frame
structure /specific Channel setting. (No SSB include in the test Model Items only control
channels & Data channels).

 1.4 Channels Configuration (PDCCH/PDSCH):

1. Time /Frequency Location for Resource Allocation.
2. Symbol Number & RB number
3. Boosting level
4. DMRS Position
5. Modulation
6. Data content (cell ID /Antenna Port/PN 23)
7. NB-IOT Operation.

 1.5 Power Accuracy can be test in test Model:

8. Measured Power
9. Cable loss (it is set as standard 0.64 dB)
10. Power Accuracy (Result achievement is as per the Requirement)

 1.6 Power Dynamics Measurements in Test Model:

11. Verify the Maximum & Minimum power difference is within the power dynamics or not.
12. Max Power should need to measure on all RB transmission with each Sub Carrier Spacing
13. Min Power should need to measure on Single RB transmission. with each Sub Carrier Spacing
14. Measured OFDM Symbols only carry PDSCH data no SSB (Sec.Synchronisation Block) and RS
(ref. Signal).
15. NOTE: Setting need to perform for PDCCH Symbols & PDSCH DMRS symbols in sub frame we
need to filter out the symbols from the measured Interval with proper calculation with
symbol start time and length.
16. OSTP (OFDM Symbol Transmit Power measured for data symbol Only.

Example:

Measured Max Power: with Full RB use & 64 QAM along with OSTP = -1.02 dBm
Minimum Power: Single RB with 64 QAM & OSTP: -26.5 dBm
So, Power Dynamic Measurement Value: 25.48 Db. :

1.7 Test Model Transmit ON/OFF Power:

Fig: 3GPP Test Specification about the relation b/w transmitter ON, OFF & Transient Period .

1. Verify the OFF-power level. (for <3ghz frequency power is <-83 dBm/MHz) & For FR2 (-82.5
dBm/MHz)
2. Verify the Transient time length (<10 Microsecond).

How to perform the measurement:

 First OFF, the Power is measured using the squared filter with specific channel bandwidth or
aggregated channel Bandwidth for multi carrier case.
 The measurement will be performed for given time period when the transmitter is OFF, and
the time average window should be cantered b/w two burst with 10 micro sec as the guard
period for each burst.
 The transient Time is measured as the time period during which the transmitter can change
from OFF power level to ON power level & vice versa.
