The National Quality Framework provides a national approach to regulating, assessing, and improving early childhood education and care services in Australia. The National Quality Standard is linked to the Early Years Learning Framework and outlines practices that support children's learning from birth. Standard 1.2 and Element 1.2.1 of the NQS relate to this unit, as educators must facilitate and extend each child's learning intentionally and purposefully. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the ECA Code of Ethics impact how educators guide children's behavior by providing ethical guidelines and protecting children's rights.

behaviour

The Early Childhood Australia ‘Code of Ethics’ :

- Provides guidelines for professional behavior and assists desision making issues that
affect
childcare.
- Helps us as carers set professional goals but does not set enforcable standards or tell
us what to
do.
- Offers guidelines in relation to children, families, collegues, community and society,
and carers as
professionals.
- It provides carers with a helpful guide for examining and promoting ethical behavior
in relation to
programme planning; Resolving ethical dilemmas etc.
- Goals of the Code of Ethics include, but are not limited to:
>Clarifying what is important among conflicting workplace demands.
> Specifying the core values, beliefs and practices that are
fundamental to early childhood professionals.
> Ensuring quality of service by identifying what cannot be
compromised.
> Raising the status of early childhood workers.
> Assisting in decision-making concerning new policies or
regulations.
> Unifying the profession by identifying common beliefs among
different sectors.
> Equipping early childhood professionals to assume new roles and
responsibilities in relation to families, colleagues and the
profession.
> Expanding professional development opportunities for more
experienced and qualified early childhood professionals.

- Values embedded into the code include respect, democracy, honesty, integrity,
justice, courage,
inclusivity, social and cultural responsivness , and education.
- The Code recognises the complexities inherent in our work and the need to think
before acting. It challenges us as professionals to take action in the face of practices
that undermine the wellbeing of children and their families and provides a platform
for ongoing advocacy.
