General Advice
1. Adequate rest.
2. Avoid cold and refrigerated foods
3. Avoid AC environment and blowing wind
4. Avoid exposure to dust by covering nose in dusty & smoky areas and at home while
cleaning which can irritate the nasal mucosa and worsen the symptoms. Using face mask
can help in such environments and also prevent spread of the infection
5. Avoid spicy, non-vegetarian, oily food
6. Salt water gargling
7. Steam Inhalation helps to relieve from blocked upper airway passages.
8. Do Tepid Sponging. Procedure: If temperature is above 102F, Sponge all over the body
with luke warm water from head to toe including back and head. Don't wipe off, let it dry on
its own which will reduce temperature by evaporation. About 15-20 mins of sponging should
be enough. But take the temperature every five minutes and stop tepid sponging when the
temperature drops to 38 C (100.4 F).
9. Above medications may cause drowsiness. Take necessary precautions.

Diet :-
1. Have soft diet like porridge, toast, Khichdi, Idlis , etc
2. Take warm fluids/soft food more frequently in small quantities
3. Warm water with added honey, tea are good for colds
4. Have a lot of fluids to keep yourself hydrated. Don't only drink plain water, but also
include tender coconut water, vegetable soup and fresh fruit juices (with no added sugar). "
