Culture Suitcase Lesson Plan
Culture Suitcase Lesson Plan
Standard - 5.3.4.G
Identify individual interests and explain ways to influence others.
2. Lesson Content
Students will be learning about the different cultures of our classroom.
I. Implementation
A. Introduction
1. Hook/Activation of Prior Knowledge
“Who can remind us of what culture is?” (take students' answers) “Yes! Culture is your traditions,
the country you’re from, and most importantly what makes you, you!”
B. Development
Begin with the hook and setting the objective so students know what today’s lesson is going to look
like.
Explain that they will have about 7-10 minutes each to share with their group.
“The expectations are to use an indoor voice; it is okay to be excited friends but there are a lot of us so
let’s not get too loud. You also need to be listening to your group, if they are sharing you are not
talking over them or having a side conversation. Ask questions if you have any!”
Display their premade groups on the board, it will also say where they are going to sit:
Dismiss students one group at a time. While they are sharing walk around to each group and take
anecdotal notes for data. Look for students sharing and listening.
Once students have finished bring them back together as a class and have them sit back in their seats.
Ask if any students want to share with the entire class. Give each student about five minutes to share.
C. Closure
Have students share one thing they learned today about someone else culture.
D. Differentiation
ELL students will be paired with students they are comfortable with, so they are more confident in
sharing.
E. Accommodations
Teacher-to-student assistance
Peer-to-peer assistance
V. Reflective Response:
A. Report of Students’ Success in Terms of States Objectives
(Reflection on student success written after lesson is taught, includes remediation for students who
failed to meet acceptable level of achievement)
