Objectives
• Define the fundamentals of
breakfall (ukemi);
• Familiarized with the different
types of break fall techniques;
and
• Perform and develop the good
break fall habit and prevent
inuries.
What is Breakfalling or Ukemi?
- is one of the most essential
technique of falling safely and
prevent from gaining injuries.
Ukemi means receiving the fall
(body or self) gracefully.
Uke – receiving
mi - body or self
Key points to remember when
dropping:
1. breath naturally;
2. learn to blend in and do not resist
the fall;
3. create and keep a smooth
crescent shape as you fall;
4. prevent your arm from bending;
5. relax and fall like a baby or
drunk;
Key points to remember when
dropping:
6. To break fall maintain one or both
arms with open palm strike
downward at 45 degree angles to
the body;
7. remember the five points
contacts. ( ball of the feet, calf,
thigh, buttocks and pull up muscle)
The common methods of falling:
1. Direct fall (dropping)
- falling directly to the
ground dissipating the forces from
your arms and legs.
2. Rolling
- blending body with the
ground by creating crescent body
shape and rolling.
