Homework #6

Due (11:59 pm, Monday, Nov 13, 2023)

Note:
• Save your answer sheet to a single pdf file with the name
“LastName_FirstName_HW#6”.
• Upload the file to A2L under the Assessment->Homework #6.

1. The interior angle of a five-sided closed traverse are as follows:

𝐴: 124°34′ ; 𝐵: 93°30′ ; 𝐶: 139°50′ ; 𝐷: 130°20′. The angle E is not measured. Compute the
angle E, assuming that given values to be correct.
2. (a) What are the deflection angles of the traverse in Problem 1? (b) What are the bearings
if the bearing of AB is due north?
3. The following are the deflection angles of a closed traverse:
′ ′ ′ ′ ′ ′
𝐴: 85°20 𝑅, 𝐵: 10°04 𝐿, 𝐶: 83°32 𝑅, 𝐷: 63°27 𝑅, 𝐸: 34°18 𝑅, 𝐹: 72°56 𝑅, 𝐺: 30°45′𝑅 .
Compute the error of closure. Adjust the angular values on the assumption that the error is
the same for each angle.
4. In problem 3, the azimuth of line AB from the north is 120°30′. Compute the azimuths for
the rest of the lines in the traverse and show a check on the calculation.
5. The following deflection angle traverse was run with a 30′′ repeating theodolite from a
line of know direction LM to another independent line of known direction TU. Compute
the angular error of closure and adjusted azimuths for each line.
Station Deflection Angle Azimuth from North
L 195𝑜 30′
M 39𝑜 47′L
N 17𝑜 20′L
O 14𝑜 08′L

Q 49𝑜 59′L
R 32𝑜 18′R
S 18𝑜 44′R
T 7𝑜 31′L
U 114𝑜 28′
6. The following bearings taken on a closed compass traverse. Compute the interior angles
and correct them for observational errors. Assuming the observed bearing of the line AB
to be correct, adjust the bearings of the remaining slides.
