The FX-8322/FX-8322R is intended for use in the electromagnetic environment specified in the following table.

IEC 60601 Compliance

Immunity test Electromagnetic environment/guidance
Test level level

Do not use portable or mobile RF

communications equipment in a place closer to
any part of the FX-8322/FX-8322R (including
cables) than the recommended separation distance
calculated with the formula applicable to the
transmitter frequency ranges shown below.

Recommended separation distance

IEC 61000-4-6 150 kHz to 80 MHz

Radial RF 3 V/m 3 V/m d = 1.2 P 80MHz to 800MHz

IEC 61000-4-3 80 MHz to 2.5 GHz
d = 2.3 P 800MHz to 2.5GHz

P is the maximum output power rating of the

transmitter in watts (W) according to the
transmitter manufacturer, and d is the
recommended separation distance in meters (m).

The field strength from fixed RF transmitters

(determined based on the result of
electromagnetic survey a) must be lower than the
compliance level in each frequency range b.

Interference may occur near the equipment

marked with the following symbol.

NOTE 1: The separation distance for higher frequency range applies to 80 MHz and 80 MHz respectively.
NOTE 2: These guidelines may not apply to all situations.
Electromagnetic propagation is affected by reflection and absorption from buildings, objects, and people.

a The field strength of fixed transmitters such as base stations for radio (cellular/cordless) phones and land mobile
radios, amateur radio, AM/FM radio broadcast and TV broadcast base stations cannot be predicted theoretically with
accuracy.
To assess the electromagnetic environment produced by fixed RF transmitters properly, perform electromagnetic
survey at site.
If the measured field strength at site where this equipment is used exceeds the applicable RF compliance level shown
above, the equipment should be monitored to assure normal operation. If an abnormality is found, additional measures
such as re-orienting or relocating this equipment may be required.

b It is desirable that the field strength be 3 V/m or less for the frequencies that do not fall within the 150 KHz to 80
MHz range.

y The thermal head performs printing as follows. The CPU sets the drawing data inside the built-in SRAM of
the FPGA with the same timing as the interrupt from the FPGA. The FPGA sets the drawing data from the
CPU to the feeding rate and then transfers them to the thermal head. The CPU reads the temperature data of
the thermal head and outputs them as strobe data to the FPGA upon adding the temperature conditions. The
FPGA monitors overheating, paper end and tray up. When any of these are detected, the FPGA interrupts
the data transfer and the strobe signal to the thermal head, and stops the printing operation.

y The motor is controlled as follows. CPU sets the paper speed data to the FPGA. The FPGA, given that there
is no paper end or tray up, outputs a drive pulse to the motor driver based on the value set from the CPU.
The motor driver drives the stepping motor at the frequency and current values that correspond to the drive
pulse. The FGPA also controls the motor drive power and supplies adequate voltage corresponding to the
feeding rate to the motor driver.

y The paper end sensor and mark sensor are controlled as follows. The sensor drive pulse output from the
FPGA is input to the phototransistor via a buffer. The sensor output signal having a voltage value according
to reflectance is amplified by the amplifier and compared against the set threshold. After the comparison,
the detected signal is input to the FPGA; and paper and mark information are finalized after the chattering
process has been performed inside the FPGA. This information is used for the motor or thermal signals, or
transferred to the CPU as a detection result.

10-1 Repair and Service

10-1-1 When ECG Recording is Unstable

y In the event when ECG recording is unstable, try operating the equipment again after checking the
following items.

z Is the examination location appropriate?

☞ Is there a noise source near the FX-8322/FX-8322R such as x-ray imaging equipment, ultrasound
imaging equipment, mobile phone, microwave oven, microwave therapy equipment or other electrical
devices?
If there is, either turn off the power of the device or operate the FX-8322/FX-8322R at a different
location not affected by the noise source.
☞ Is the temperature of the examination location kept within the 20-25 degrees Celsius range?
☞ Is the examination location low in humidity?

z Is the lead cable connected properly?

☞ Is the lock loose?
☞ Is the tip of the lead cable connected properly to the electrode?

z Is the state of the electrode good?

☞ Has the patient's skin been wiped thoroughly with ethanol cotton and then treated with skin cleaner?
☞ Is the electrode expired, or is the gel layer of the electrode dry?
In such case, be sure to use new electrodes.
☞ Aren't new and old electrodes or different kinds of electrodes used together?
☞ Is the electrode attached at the right position?

Note:

z Noise may be introduced into the ECG waveforms if the electrode is not attached to the patient
properly or if the cable is being pulled.

10-1
Chapter 10 Troubleshooting

10-3 Hardware Troubles

WARNING

Do not unplug the AC power supply or remove the battery abruptly during
operation.
Make sure to shut down the equipment using the power switch.
It could otherwise result in irreparable damage to the system files.

CAUTION

If any electrical parts need to be replaced, it is recommended to replace the entire

board whenever possible.
Most electrical parts on the board are soldered into a very small area, and attempts to
replace these on-board electrical parts present risks of damaging the board as well as
other electrical parts.

If the power cannot be turned off normally by pressing the [On] / [Off Stby] key,
keep pressing the key for about 10 seconds.
This forcibly turns the power off by hardware.

Make sure to check the boards and connectors after removing the battery from the
equipment.
Performing these checks while the equipment is energized could result in failure of the
equipment.

Do not plug/unplug cables with wet hands.

Electric shock, short circuit, or injury may result.

Note:

z The "Cause" items described in the following pages merely indicate the possible causes of the
failure; and they may not necessarily be the actual causes. The order of items is irrelevant.

z Multiple problems may be occurring at the same time. After the repair, be sure to perform a safety
check and confirm normal operation of the equipment.

12-3-1 Safety Check (6 items)

y In order to ensure safe handling of medical equipment and measuring instruments and to enable tests to be
performed safely, leakage current and other factors that have adverse effect on human body are prescribed
by the safety test standards.
When performing the check, assessment should be made by measuring the leakage current with a leakage
current measure that satisfies the measurement conditions for medical electrical equipment.

WARNING
If, during a safety inspection, a value that exceeds the allowable limit is confirmed,
immediately stop using the given unit; then replace the defective part or make
proper repairs. Failure to repair the unit can lead to a serious accident.

Note:

z There are a several types of measurement states in the measurement of leakage current, be
sure to determine the maximum value among all the measured values and adopt it as the
measured value. It is also important to compare the measured values against those in the
past and check whether there are any problematic changes in them.

12-3-1-1 Resistor Network

y Use a human-simulated resistor network such as shown below when measuring leakage current.

Measurement (No leads) Measurement

(No leads)

Electronic
voltmeter or digital
voltmeter

Leakage current is determined by measuring the voltages at both ends of the capacitor of the human-simulated
resistor network (AC and DC) and then converting them into current values using the formula shown below.

Measured voltage (V)

= Measured current value (mA)
1,000 (Ohm): Simulated resistance

Note:

z Due to the strong effect leakage current has on human body, its testing methods, performance
of measuring instruments, limiting values, etc. are regulated by standards and laws. Leakage
current of this equipment should be measured using a measuring instrument compliant to
"IEC 60601-1", a standard for medical electrical equipment.

z The equipment would need repair if any leakage current values measured at different
measurement points exceed those prescribed by the standard.
